Hello there

I reverted your edit because the lead is supposed to be a summary of the article as it stands. If you want to argue that Dali continues to have a major impact on fashion, filmmaking, animation, advertising, photography, and literature you will need to add reliably sourced content to the article which demonstrates this. It can then be summarised in the lead. The article you cited does not even mention his contemporary impact on these fields and was written in 2005, which isn't very recent. Nor is Pantheon's wiki-based ranker a reliable source for impact on contemporary culture. Have a look at WP:RELIABLE and WP:LEAD. Happy to discuss on the Salvador Dali Talk page. You make excellent points, though I stand by the conviction that those aspects of culture which Dali influenced in his lifetime, and which continue to reverberate in our culture, ought to be included in the lead, which gives a poor sense of Dali's breadth of achievement when only referring to him as a skilled creator of bizarre images who has influenced pop art. Respecting your note and suggestions, I added relevant links for information about the different aspects of culture Dali has influenced, and I changed the wording slightly. The article already mentions Dali's work with Halsman (photography), Disney (film/animation), Schiaparelli (fashion), and advertising (Chupa Chups). These facets of culture Dali has influenced either solo or collaboratively should be included in the lead, with the appropriate links, to give a fair sense of his scope.

I think that these additions to the lead should, if you or anyone else so sees fit, be edited or cropped, not deleted outright. Pboboc (talk) 01:21, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are adding things already in the lead: namely "Dalí's artistic repertoire included painting, graphic arts, film, sculpture, design and photography, at times in collaboration with other artists. He also wrote fiction, poetry, autobiography, essays and criticism." As explained above, if you want to argue that he is still a major contemporary influence on these fields you will need to find some scholarly sources stating this. In other words, you will need to start a new section about his continuing and current influence in these fields.
