Richard Mitchell

I had to revert your change at Richard Mitchell because text must be supported by reliable sources. One tiny illustration of the need for such sources is that there are a lot of people with the same name—how is it known that it was this Richard Mitchell? There is no indication of the source of the image. Johnuniq (talk) 23:23, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, if you want to post a new message on a talk page, the procedure is to click "new section" at the top. That puts a section at the bottom of the page, with a heading. There is more at WP:TP and questions can be asked at WP:HELPDESK.
The image proposed for Richard Mitchell is this. Clicking that link shows that it has been nominated for deletion with the reason "wrong license". Images need to follow various rules to demonstrate that they have been released for use in the terms required.
The fundamental problem is that material added to articles must be supported with reliable sources and proposed edit has no reference. If wanted, you can reply here and we can discuss the issue. Another procedure would to be post a new section at the article talk (Talk:Richard Mitchell) so other editors interested in the topic would have a better chance of seeing it.
Your comment at my talk included "I am the source. How do I cite that?". There is no way to do that. Anyone can edit Wikipedia and the result would be chaos if people could add material using themselves as the source. A reference does not have to be easily accessible, but it must have been published in a form that would allow other editors to examine the source, and to assess the reliability of that source. Sorry, but personal knowledge without a reliable source is not usable. Johnuniq (talk) 23:25, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
