Article about Melanie Zeppel

I've just come across "What a Wikipedia page can do for women in STEM", by Olivia Clear, 11 October 2023. It presents Melanie Zeppel's interest in writing about STEM women on Wikipedia. It looks as if she was the creator of Melina Georgousakis and one other article but unless she has another user name, she no longer appears to be an active contributor. It's a pity the results of the Suerstar STEM event are not available. I see nevertheless from here that quite a number of articles about Australian scientists were created or upgraded on 7 October. The event appears to have attracted at least one new member, August Walker.--Ipigott (talk) 11:06, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

On further investigation, I've discovered she has in fact another user name (which I wont mention here as I want to avoid outing). I see she has indeed created over 60 informative articles about notable women. Certainly a highly active contributor and organizer. You might ask her whether she would like to add her name to her Wikipedia user page. I think it would be useful if people could identify her, especially as her tweets provide ample evidence of who she is. The Suoerstar STEM event seems to have been a huge success.--Ipigott (talk) 06:06, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
@Ipigott: The event was held in Sydney, Melbourne and online and, despite many bookings v. few people turned up on the day, which was disappointing. We were, however, able to improve a good number of bios as that was the focus, rather than new article creation, which can lead to all sorts of problems. Oronsay (talk) 05:59, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Oronsay. That casts quite a different light on the success of the event. Perhaps in future, even if an event is held in more than one location, you could still put together a Wikipedia event page rather than just a dashboard. It's not just the new articles which are of interest but also those improved, the list of participants, etc. I appreciate the kind of coverage given on Wikipedia:Meetup/Online/Australian Community Meetings.--Ipigott (talk) 06:26, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
