The Great Block Debate

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because of concerns that the chosen username may not meet our username policy.
This is often not a reflection on the user, and you are encouraged to choose a new account name which does meet our guidelines and are invited to contribute to Wikipedia under an appropriate username. If you feel this block was made in error, you may quickly and easily appeal it - see below.

Our username policy provides guidance on selecting your username. In brief, usernames should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, related to a 'real-world' group or organization, confusing, or misleading.

If you have already made edits and wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name you may request a change in username which is quick and easy. To do so, please follow these directions:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note, you may only request a name that is not already in use. The account is created upon acceptance – do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change since we can far easier allocate your new name to you, if it is not yet used. Usernames that have already been taken are listed here. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username.
Last, the automated software systems that prevent vandalism may have been activated, which can cause new account creation to be blocked also. If you have not acted in a deliberately inappropriate manner, please let us know if this happens, and we will deactivate the block as soon as possible. You may also appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you. Jmlk17 04:06, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

BOT account name does not violate account naming policy

Decline reason:

Yes it does, it is a misleading account name. Request a new name.— MBisanz talk 04:45, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Please famiarize yourself with our Bot Policy. You cannot run a bot without approval via WP:BRFA. Please file a BFRA with your main account, and once that process gets going, we can unblock this account. - Rjd0060 (talk) 04:51, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Per filing of BRFA. Do not operate this bot prior to a Trial being granted by BAG or it will be reblocked.

Request reason:

BOT does not require BAG approval form semi mode as per following

Decline reason:

From WP:USERNAME: Your username should not give the impression that your account has permissions which it does not have. Thus it should not contain the terms "administrator", "bureaucrat", "steward", "checkuser", "oversight", "developer" or similar terms like "admin", "sysop" or "moderator", or end with "bot", which is used to identify bot accounts. This user does not have the bot permission / flag. — SQLQuery me! 06:54, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia_talk:Bot_policy#Question_regarding_the_need_of_bot_approval and [1] bottom of the page there, that looks familiar. --Lemmey talk 06:35, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

If we blocked all accounts with "Bot" undergoing a Bot request for approval, it would make the bot approval process a little difficult. Unblocked. Gimmetrow 20:56, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Charlottetown Resolves

In cases where the function of the bot is not one that already holds general widespread acceptance, or at the discretion of BAG members when greater community feedback is desired, the request may first move to an extended trial of approximately one month. --Wikipedia:Bot policy

Resolved, Whereas fixing missing references from especially complicated edit histories is a concept that holds general widespread acceptance not though committee or spoken consensus but by the core tenets of laid out in the Wikipedia pillars, this bot reserves the right to act in a period of extended trial as it alone deems necessary. --Lemmey talk 06:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

BOTMODE

This bot is Currently Operating in Manual Confirmation Mode and as such does not require a BOT approval. --Lemmey talk 14:38, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

BOT is operating in trial mode for automated edits with individual testing of modifications still done in manual mode. --Lemmey talk 02:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Bug-kinda

[2] - Duplicated the ref. Thanks for the work so far, though. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

The reference was interepreted as broken as it included the text <ref name = "Oxford"/> Blah Blah Blah </ref>. BOT's edit did not seriousy detriment article (the reference text did appear in the article and a hanging </ref> remained in the code. The article has since been fixed. This instance is considered isolated and low risk but is also considered to be repeatable. I will watch out for similar occuances in the future. --Lemmey talk 17:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
