Edits to Bal Chandra Poudel

Hello Kritan Bhujel Sharma: I saw that you've been expanding the article Bal Chandra Poudel. Thanks for taking the time to contribute content to this article. However, please don't remove maintenance templates, such as the Template:pp-protected template, if the flagged issue has not been resolved. In this case, the template was placed there to indicate that the page is under semi-protection until 3 December. A bot will usually remove such templates automatically when the protection expires.

I also wanted to point out some concerns I have about your edits. You've been adding a lot of unsourced statements to the article. For example, the information on his personal life does not cite any sources, likewise the long paragraph under "Political career". It is important that content on Wikipedia be sourced, especially so for biographies of living persons. Both B.S. and A.D. dates are also used in the article. It is potentially confusing to switch between these two calendars, and the style guide recommends that a conversion to the Common Era system be included in the article. Finally, a large part of the added text is background information, e.g. the description of the People's Movement. Some background is necessary to explain a subject to the general audience, but this should be in proportion to the content directly about the subject of the article. In this case, the background is longer than the actual facts about Poudel himself.

If you've any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this message on your talk page or mine, or if it is to discuss something directly related to the article, on the article's own talk page. It's also helpful to leave an edit summary for your edits. Thank you, Kbseah (talk) 00:49, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Kritan Bhujel Sharma, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Bal Chandra Poudel have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:23, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Diannaa: The copyvio content that you previously revdel'ed on 6 Nov appears to have been restored by Kritan Bhujel Sharma. The protection template has also been removed again from the article, despite my attempts to communicate on this talk page and via edit summaries, which have all been silently ignored. Content from the Bal Chandra Poudel article was also copied into other articles without attribution, including here. To avoid 3RR I am refraining from further edits to Bal Chandra Poudel but I don't think that Kritan Bhujel Sharma's actions have been appropriate. Kbseah (talk) 22:03, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have cleaned up as much as I could find and issued a final warning. Thank you for letting me know. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:36, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Diannaa: Thank you for taking the time to look into this matter. Unfortunately the content you removed was quite speedily restored. The fact that there has been absolutely no response to any talk page message, as well as the editing pattern (lots of small incremental edits, many markup errors, manual copy-paste of content between pages) led me to wonder if the editor has technical limitations. Kbseah (talk) 05:08, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please cite sources

Hello Kritan Bhujel Sharma: Could you please cite sources for your edits? This is regarding your edits to Bal Chandra Poudel once again. Verifiability is one of the core policies of Wikipedia. However, most of your edits don't cite any sources, and the one reference that you did add is to a broken link. Point by point:

  • Statement that Poudel entered politics in 1974 ("Political career") is unsourced
  • Statement that he participated in the People's Movements ("Political career") is unsourced
  • The years in which he was elected as a representative are all unsourced ("Political career")
  • Section "President of Nepali Congress,Rasuwa" is completely unsourced, except for statement about arrest in 2005 which copies text and citation from the section above that I added in a previous edit.
  • Link to page at election.gov.np in reference is broken - is the URL correct? ("Electoral Performance")
  • Section "Personal life" is completely unsourced. This is particularly important for a biography of a living person that due regard be given for the subject's privacy, so unsourced information about family members etc. should not be there.
  • The statement that Girija Prasad Koirala succeeded Poudel as President of the Nepali Congress in Rasuwa is unsourced, and also not mentioned in the article on Koirala. He was the national president of the Nepali Congress, so in the Infobox he should not be listed as the successor to Poudel, because that's for a completely different office.
  • Likewise the office-holder fields in the Infobox don't seem to be correct, and are quite misleading. It says that he is "Incumbent", but of what office? The successor and predecessor fields appear to be incorrect.
  • The "Known for" field in the infobox is redundant: to say that a politician is known for "politics" doesn't add any additional information
  • Please give Common Era equivalents for the B.S. dates. The other Nepal-related articles that I have checked all use Common Era dates anyway.

Could you please acknowledge that you have seen this message, and understand what I am trying to communicate to you? Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and you cannot just write what you please without regard for other editors' legitimate concerns, or for the core policies. I assume that you know about talk pages, because you edited the talk page of the Poudel article when it was semi-protected. However, if you haven't already read the Core Content Policies, I urge you to do so before editing further.

If you are not familiar with how some of the technical things are done, e.g. wiki markup or formatting, adding citations, I am willing to help with answering your questions. However, the issues that I have highlighted, especially the lack of sources, have to be addressed eventually. Otherwise much of the problematic material will have to be removed, whether by me or by other editors who come across the page in the future. Thanks, Kbseah (talk) 23:24, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Political Career of Nepali Politicians requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from alchetron.com/Gagan-Thapa-852761-W. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 14:24, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Political Career of Nepali Politicians has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This collective article makes no sense. If the individuals covered merit their own articles then make them.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I have removed the biographies from this article, as much of the content was unsourced or copied from other Wikipedia articles without proper attribution. In order to protect the rights of living people, all content you add about them needs proper sourcing please. If you have good additional content with good sourcing to back it up, please add it to the individual articles. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:46, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
