Howdy, finishing up the Ryukyu stuff today. However, I just had the thought; have you checked out the WP:DISCORD? Me, Remsense, and a few other folks have been working together on some Chinese archaeological and history topics there, and I thought that might be the kinda thing you'd be interested in joining. And I for one would love to have you and your expertise on Shang topics there to poke sometimes! :) Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 18:26, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Generalissima: Thanks very much for the invite, but it isn't really my thing. Very happy to talk about these things anywhere on the wiki, though. Kanguole 21:49, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough! One question I had; in Cambridge's The Archaeology of China (Liu & Chen, 2012), it makes reference to the Erligang state, the Erlitou state, etc. is the idea that the Erligang and Erlitou cultures can be analyzed as cohesive states universal, or is that still debated? Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 22:47, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is common, though perhaps Erlitou is a bit controversial. Bagley even calls Erligang an empire. Campbell is a bit skeptical and apt to use scare quotes around "state", but I don't think I've seen him address the issue directly. Kanguole 23:01, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
