Christopher Grimes Gallery' is a contemporary art gallery owned by Christopher Grimes.

Established in 1979, Christopher Grimes Gallery presents a diverse program of international contemporary art.[1] The gallery had its beginnings as a photography gallery in Northern California, but soon thereafter branched into other mediums. [2] The gallery has introduced and promoted many foreign artists in the U.S. while expanding the awareness of national artists abroad. The gallery was the first in Los Angeles to exhibit artists Lisa Yuskavage and Ernesto Neto.


Locations

Before its present location on Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, the gallery had two other locations, both also in Santa Monica. From late 1989 until early 1990, the gallery was located on 12th Street. The gallery moved to 17th Street, where it remained till late 1992.


Exhibitions

Since 1989, Christopher Grimes Gallery has mounted more than 100 solo and group exhibitions. Most notable are:

  • 25th Anniversary-The LA Years, Part I and Part II, 28 February - 3 April 2004 (Part I), 10 April - 15 May 2004 (Part II)
  • Amnesia, 1 July - 12 September 1998: Group show including Waltercio Caldas, Ernesto Neto, Tunga, and other Brazilian artists

The gallery also participates annually in local and international art fairs, such as ArtLA, ARCO, Art Forum Berlin, LOOP Video Art Fair, and VOLTA.
