Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Requested username:

Request reason:

Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to change my username to "dospassoshistorian" to indicate that I am acting as an individual in making my revisions to Wikipedia. I used my original username, John Dos Passos Literary Estate, in order to indicate my expertise in making edits to pages dealing with my grandfather, American author John Dos Passos. It's important that validators at Wikipedia know that I bring knowledge and history to this subject. My edits are based on hard information, not caprice. I am an individual as well as curator of the Dos Passos Estate. I hope this is enough to warrant my editorial activities. Thanks. John Dos Passos Literary Estate (talk) 19:37, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:26, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Amended unblock request to be an unblock-un. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 18:45, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Before I or another administrator approves this request, can you confirm that you have read and understood the following policies:

  1. WP:Conflict of interest. Your stated intention is to contribute to an article about your grandfather. This raises clear conflict of interest issues.
  2. WP:No original research. Given your closeness with the subject at hand, you must understand that you are contributing to Wikipedia as an editor of an article, not a contributer of original information.
  3. WP:Reliable sources. Generally, Wikipedia requires all content to be verified using third-party reliable sources. The editor's role and expertise is irrelevant - all that matters is that it can be verified. Therefore, given you have stated that you want editors to know your expertise in this area, you need to understand why that does not add any additional weight to your editing contributions.

Once you have confirmed that you understand all of the above and the policies that have been linked to, I or another administrator will act on your unblock request. Singularity42 (talk) 19:24, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Understood

I have read and understood the policies described and linked. I believe my edits fall in the category of "non-controversial edits," since they are limited to changing the publication date for a book, and adding external links and further reading. I believe that scrutiny will reveal these citations and sources to be reliable and authoritative. Thank you.

I'm going to unblock this, so you can create your new account. Be very careful about conflict of interest. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:26, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
