As advised by ItsZippy at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard‎, applied to Mediation Cabal. — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talk) 00:38, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Mediation Cabal: Request for participation

Dear Jasper Deng: Hello. This is just to let you know that you've been mentioned in the following request at the Mediation Cabal, which is a Wikipedia dispute resolution initiative that resolves disputes by informal mediation.

The request can be found at Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/13 November 2011/Usage share of operating systems.

Just so you know, it is entirely your choice whether or not you participate. If you wish to do so, and we'll see what we can do about getting this sorted out. At MedCab we aim to help all involved parties reach a solution and hope you will join in this effort.

If you have any questions relating to this or any other issue needing mediation, you can ask on the case talk page, the MedCab talk page, or you can ask the mediator, thehistorian10, at their talk page. MedcabBot (talk) 20:58, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Please leave the IP alone. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 00:40, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Folding@home article

Hi Jasper Deng!

Wow that is quite an impressive set of contributions (and userboxes!) you have there. Very nice, and thank you very much for your contributions. Hope to see you with a Barnstar or something! :) Looks like you love Windows, and computing-related articles. Have you ever read Folding@home? I think you might find it interesting if you haven't heard about it before. I've been doing a lot of editing on the article over the last several months, trying to bring it up to Good Article status. I just thought you might be interested in something like that is all. Best, Jessemv (talk) 06:48, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not an HPC guy, but I'm not really liking the lead of the article because it contains some WP:WEASEL words.Jasper Deng (talk) 18:04, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh? Interesting because both User:Emw and User:7im have said they like the lead. What part do you have problems with? Please point to specific examples and I'll do my best to address them. I am pursuing further research into the "Folding@home has caused paradigm shifts in protein folding theory" statement as to ascertain the exact details behind it. So if that's what you have a problem with know that I'm trying to take care of that. If something else, please specify if you can. Thank you. Jessemv (talk) 23:59, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
My concern is the use of terms like "accurate."Jasper Deng (talk) 00:21, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Yourname socks

How many pages have Yourname socks been responsible for the protection of in the past few days? Do you think 74.162.135.78 is one?--1966batfan (talk) 00:40, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

No, I think this one is a different LTA, perhaps Ihateantisemites (talk · contribs) or Grawp.Jasper Deng (talk) 00:44, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
I think there is no use reverting him on talk pages (he's waiting to revert back). Just report to AIV or do something else until they are blocked. And then revert. Same as 4chan. Materialscientist (talk) 06:39, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. His only useful purpose appears to be finding proxies and Tor nodes for us to block. See Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested for a filter request I made for him (which should prove as most effective for this guy).Jasper Deng (talk) 17:58, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

New one: 31.31.36.246. I requested his talk page be protected as soon as I saw the trademark Yourname sock edits. Will he ever learn?--1966batfan (talk) 01:24, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Let's avoid giving him attention. I've requested an edit filter at Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested, but no-one has replied.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:25, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Revdel'd

I've revdel'd all the nonsense on your ip talk page - if I've missed anything else that needs to be zapped, let me know! Skier Dude (talk) 04:52, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

I think selective deletion is a better solution here. My own edit summaries and edits didn't have to be deleted, but, all that matters is that that guy's edits are.Jasper Deng (talk) 04:53, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Arcra

User:Arcra is a troll of whom?--1966batfan (talk) 01:16, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Not a sock, but an obvious troll that appears to be not related to a sockpuppeteer of any sort.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:17, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Re: MfD nomination of User talk:IceCreamDan1

Re: your message: I closed the MfD early. There's no real point in going through with it. The account is blocked, I deleted the talk page, and I've now protected the talk page from further edits. It is not unprecedented that the Wiki-webhost editors doing these fan reality television seasons/fan fiction things come back under either a new account or an IP to edit their old accounts. They either get attached to it or want to recover the previous work. If it happens again, I recommend requesting protection on WP:RFPP or leaving a note for the admin who blocked the account and deal with it without so much process as an MfD. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:40, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I requested it at RPP already, but made that comment on your talk page to make sure you weren't confused. Thanks.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:41, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Vandals and AIV...

I would appreciate it if you stopped using "Grawp (LTA)" as your reason in AIV reports. "/b/tard" should be good enough, as it denies recognition for Grawp. Thanks. →Στc. 05:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

What is that? Grawp would raise the biggest alarm, and what we do to him is rather specialized to him.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:57, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Alarm? We're not the Secret Service here. WP:DENY, please, but /b/tard is hardly pleasant. A vandal is a vandal, let's not insult certain ones or indulge others. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 05:21, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
The question is, what does /b/tard mean and what does it come from?Jasper Deng (talk) 05:25, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Answered my own question, but this guy is not a typical 4chan attacker. He's more than that.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:30, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and by alarm, I mean getting a higher priority at AIV.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:43, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
If he's more than that, even more reason to WP:DENY. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 15:18, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
As of the comment I made in reply to Sigma, I had already switched to /b/tard, but I don't think we're helping to DENY him by talking about him here.Jasper Deng (talk) 18:05, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

hacktivist

I think you know the relevant sources better than I: is there a basis for Entropy (hacktivist) ? I declined a speedy on it, but I'm not at all sure. I'll look here for your response. DGG ( talk ) 05:31, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't hack, sorry, but this appears to be deletable as an unsourced BLP.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:32, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
right. For some reason I thought only of speedy or Afd (I asked you because of the various people commenting or editing similar pages, you were the one I recognised, and recognised as responsible). DGG ( talk ) 19:05, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Title blacklist

[1] ~Alison C. (aka Crazytales) 17:34, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Now all we need is for this entry to be extended to user talk page edits (or a new entry for that) and an entry for his vandalism since he more often uses anonymous IPs (proxies most of the time) and accounts that don't match that.Jasper Deng (talk) 23:15, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Can you post a request for that on [[WT:Edit filter]] WP:EF/R? I'm not going to touch the edit filter with a 39 1/2 foot pole because I doubt my regex-fu and I'm going to bed now (01:58 EST). Also, would you like vandalic IP edits to your talk page to be revdeleted, or just named users? ~Alison C. (Crazytales) 06:59, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Twinkle/edit filter message

Just curious where this message is located? I saw you posted it on someone's talk page. Never have found it, may find it useful. Calabe1992 20:30, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

It's under "Single issue warnings."Jasper Deng (talk) 20:53, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Incidently...

While I agree that it was right to remove the trivia about Mario Bros., It's actually true....though it's just the first four measures that's used. They actually used a lot of (public domain) classical music in those days, as most of the time the music was done by programmers, not composers. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 05:12, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

When information does not look like it's true, I remove it (like if I find something saying Larry Ellison died).Jasper Deng (talk) 05:13, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Consider my warning an absolute final one. That niche website is in no way a reliable source at all for those kinds of allegations. Open a thread at WP:ANI if that user does it again, or if it's atrocious enough, simply report it to WP:AIV.Jasper Deng (talk) 04:09, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for saving me back there. I already reported it in WP:AIV but admins removed it without taking any action. That user edited Opus Dei‎ even after my final warnings twice. Please check whether you can do anything in this. Thanks. Abdul rajaT 04:27, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

User reviews for ATIH

Hi You recently reverted [this change] to Acronis True Image Home. I am aware of RS rules, but for this the quote is regarding 'user reviews'. Seems RS for a user review. The editor review seems RS too. peterl (talk) 05:19, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

No, the derivation of the reviews' overall opinion is original research. The editor review is very positive, and supports the previous statement. The user why tried to add it seems to be advocating a negative view about this software.Jasper Deng (talk) 17:48, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Mentorship

Hi Jasper,

I noticed that you state you are mentored to three other Wikipedia editors. I have been considering asking a specific sysop to mentor me, but I do not know much about the process. Could you possibly give me some advice about what it means for an experienced editor to have a mentor and how I might go about asking the sysop in question. Alternatively, you could point me toward pre-published information on this matter. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 01:00, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

A mentor basically will direct you through tough situations, and will answer most of your questions. Usually mentorship is to fix a problem with an editor, and if it doesn't succeed then a block occurs. See Wikipedia:Mentorship for more details.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:02, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't think you need it though, considering you've been nominated for RfA before.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:03, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
