HomeAid edits

I got your messages about the editing of our HomeAid entry in Wikipedia. We are a non-profit organization that builds housing across the country for homeless organizations. We are attempting to add content to our Wiki page so people can learn about us and visit our website if interested in helping with the cause. I am very confused by your messages telling me to stop "soap boxing and promoting". We are trying just to inform. It is hard to do that without telling people what you do. Please advise me on how to proceed.

Thank you, Peter Simons CEO HomeAid America — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.237.9.215 (talk) 20:14, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Horses--can you please respond to my question above? We want to improve our Wiki page and need to know the guidelines. I thought the changes we made were fairly objective and we--as a non-profit--are not trying to sell anything. Please advise ASAP. Thank you, Peter Simons — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.237.9.215 (talk) 15:53, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

I disagree. I don't think the edits were objective. It seemed like you were trying to advertise the organization, instead of rephrasing information from reliable sources in your words. A relevant guideline would be the conflict of interest guidelines. --I dream of horses (T) @ 17:18, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Dinosaurs Alive! (even if not...)

Hello, I dream of horses. I am sorry I accidentally deleted some information about Dinosaurs Alive!. I was just editing something then my fingers duoble touched my mouse which highlighted some of the article then I accidentally preesed 'hbekhebdk...etc. then I deleted what I accidentally (so much for words hehehe) wrote o the page. I tried to put it back but i can't remember and it takes so much work and I'm tired ( just went to work an hour ago ). Anyways, I already went in Dinosaurs Alive! and enjoyed it so much and saw some info are wrong and am trying to correct some. I hope you understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RyanA32 (talkcontribs) 03:07, 1 July 2014‎ (UTC)

I don't see any edits on the page since May of this year. I dream of horses (T) @ 17:22, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Oh, wait, I see the page you're talking about. Since you didn't do it repeatedly, I'll take it that it was a mistake. I dream of horses (T) @ 17:23, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Le cut inside man

I see you have reverted my edit to this brand new redirect.

This is a new "meme" and actually refers to Clitoris, not to football player, Arjen Robben.

Honestly it's not very noteworthy and should probably be deleted, but if it stays up, it should redirect to the correct page.

I'll fix it now.

Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.186.240.203 (talk) 02:40, 2 July 2014

All-American Conference

You made a mistake in restoring the old All-American Conference alignment for the 2013-2014 school year. I deleted it because it is past July 1st, the day that high school conference realignments take place. All I was doing was replacing the old out of date alignment for the All-American Conference with the new one for the 2014-2015 school year, which took effect on July 1st, 2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.228.32.175 (talk) 05:32, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Placing a Photo

Greetings to you IDOH,

I was just wondering at what point I'll become a confirmed user so that I can begin to place a photo on a page.

Also, what evidence do I need that I have the copyright holder's permission to place the photo?

Yours,

The Brain Coach

If you register/log into your own account, you'll be autoconfirmed after four days and ten edits, at which point you'll be able to log into Wikimedia Commons. Barring the photo being someplace online with a copyright to someone else, I think we mostly take people at their word as to who the copyright holder is. --I dream of horses (T) @ 05:26, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Hey. I removed it because it was repeated information, adding nothing new to the page. I think a "Production" section would be better explored should it contain more information. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.100.244.111 (talk) 06:27, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

The G5 CLASSIFIEDS™ link shared is 100% appropriate and relevant to the wikipedia Social Classifieds? Social Classifieds is exactly what it is!!! Is it not? I mean why would the link shared be considered spam but Oodle, Facebook Marketplace, Classonet etc. is NOT spam?? Now how is that possible? Something just isn't adding up? Do they pay or just receive some sort of special privilege or something? I'm only sharing similar info relevant to what I see already shared to the page and actually I believe the info I updated to the page is more relevant? It's 100% free unlike some of the other sites listed on the page, so you are basically telling me that you are okay with referring people to sites that persuade people to pay money for there service and and not okay with people being referred to G5 CLASSIFIEDS™ which is 100% free! I am not a part of G5's staff, I am only a member satisfied with the free service they provide and I only made an edit to a wikipedia page where I found the site to be absolutely relevant!!! What's the problem??? Because I am boggled here??? What if it wasn't a clickable link at all or does it even matter? I sense a bit of favoritism going on here??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.49.183.14 (talk) 01:20, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Don't you think that the fact that you have been blocked once, a couple of months ago, for repeatedly adding the link to Wikipedia articles serves as a strong indivation that it is in fact an inappropriate link to add? Four different editors, five if you include the administrator who blocked you, have informed you that it is inappropriate. And yes, the link to Classonet.com was also inappropriate, and has been removed. And no, it would not matter if it were not clickable. --bonadea contributions talk 09:42, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Gunshare, Gun Sharing, Sharing Economy, Yellow-Bike-Project

Emily, I recently added an article that, I trust will inspire a range of energetic responses. It's an original idea, ideally suited for Wikipedia. I greatly value open discussion of dissenting views. I have been an observer and participant in what's now being called The Sharing Economy for years. I am not an academic. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics after serving in the US Navy for 4 years & working for Greenpeace (part-time) for nearly 3 years. I work professionally on environmental services for the Oil Industry. I'm both a member of the ACLU and a supporter of the National Rifle Association. I've donated, and will continue to financially support Wikipedia, though I am concerned about Wikipedia's openness to ideas counter to accepted orthodoxy.

I'd appreciate knowing more about you, and how you came to judge & delete the GunShare Article I posted so quickly. I'd appreciate any advice you could offer on how I may improve the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MayberryonMushrooms (talkcontribs) 21:56, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Actually, I didn't delete the article you created. I just nominated it for deletion--speedy deletion, at that. There is a pretty significant difference.
I nominated it for deletion because I felt it was more suited for a pamphlet, or even an ad, and not an encyclopedia article. I'm sure the administrator who actually did delete the article, Peridon, will be able to explain further. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:29, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
OK. I did delete it, and I stand by my decision. To start with, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia. It isn't social media or a free web host. Its function is not to "to initiate research" on anything. That can be viewed as promoting discussion or promoting an idea WP:SPAM and WP:NOBLE. We don't even publish original research WP:OR. To be recorded here, things have to be discussed in reliable independent sources WP:RS - not the person doing the thing or putting the idea forward, or their associates, but totally independent and reliable sources. Not blogs (with a very few exceptions), forums, wikis, books by people involved, or any form of free webhost like blogspot and weebly, or social media like Facebook etc. If there were an existing (not proposed, but actually running) outfit doing this gunshare, and it were able to pass WP:GROUP or other subsidiary to WP:GNG with referencing to WP:RS level sources, then a neutrally worded article would be possible. As this appears to be a piece of 'original research' (which includes original thought...), it is not suitable for an article. The wording of the article was very promotional of the idea, and that was the reason for the actual speedy deletion. Otherwise, it would have been nominated for deletion at WP:PROD, or taken to Articles for deletion WP:AFD, as being OR is not a speedy deletion criterion. Please feel free to ask questions, and please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ which puts your sig on with a datestamp, like this: Peridon (talk) 08:29, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
As to "openness to ideas counter to accepted orthodoxy" here, we do record record things that are counter to orthodoxy so long as they are demonstrably notable. Homeopathy is notable, despite it being logically and scientifically indefensible - so are Reich's orgone boxes. A lot of fringe stuff, however, is not notable, despite the amount of self-generated publicity that some of it enjoys. BTW I would advise you to read WP:COI as I see you state that you are a member of the NRA. Peridon (talk) 08:37, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

They were created by community groups and community development corporations in the neighborhoods under a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. For the most part, it really isn't appropriate to add social media links to articles. I'm defining social media as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, but it's still a good rule to abide by. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:31, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Revert of 115.132.90.27 on racism in the United Kingdom

Hi, I see you recently reverted an edit by User:115.132.90.27 where they removed a section from Racism in the United Kingdom. While an edit summary would have been nice, I believe the edit is pretty much justified, that section is far too lengthy and was only added today by an editor who appears to only be here to promote own name/work on various Wikipedia articles. I issued a COI warning, but it doesn't appear to have been heeded and I don't have time to go throughout the various additions either. Perhaps you could take a look at what's going on and also maybe consider reverting your edit (or at least trimming the section significantly). Thanks.--Shakehandsman (talk) 05:53, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

I dont want my page erased. Could you please consider in adopting me? I'll behave =) I'm a Journalist, and yes, and excited about the things we have to fix. Revewing Payner94

Why did you even bother to review Payner94 with a sarcastic statement, when it is obvious vandalism? I am just curious. Piguy101 (talk) 02:28, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

I don't see how "Please take Wikipedia seriously" is sarcasm when it's pretty obvious that somebody isn't taking Wikipedia seriously.
I mostly reviewed for technical reasons--to remove it from the new pages feed. Also, even though the chances that they'll stop vandalizing because of that comment, it isn't entirely nothing. --I dream of horses (T) @ 04:37, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
The comment wasn't sarcastic; I just couldn't think of a better word at the moment. I did not realize that doing so would remove the article from the feed. Thanks Piguy101 (talk) 14:27, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Kodak 35 RF

Hi, You removed a link that I included at the Kodak 35RF page. I reviewed the policy page and I do believe that the link which I provided is a perfect example of the approved use of external links, and very consistent with how I have seen such links used effectively throughout WP.

Policy quoted: Wikipedia articles may include links to web pages outside Wikipedia (external links), but they should not normally be placed in the body of an article. All external links must conform to certain formatting restrictions.

Some acceptable links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy.

I believe that this collection of Kodak cameras adds an extra depth of knowledge not viable in the WP format, and was properly included outside of the body of the article and is specifically on-topic. Your objection was vague suggesting that the inclusion was not consistent with an encyclopedia. That comment seems wholly inconsistent with ongoing practices at WP. This type of inclusion allows WP readers to benefit from copyrighted material on other sites without the effort of getting owners of intellectual property to give the unlimited free use permission required by WP policy.

Best regards.76.103.33.70 (talk) 20:27, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

I was a bit concerned since it was a private collection; however, I am not going to remove it again. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:38, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding on this. WP works well when we all work together and grow. I was very active years ago and in on developing key rule sets, actually limiting/managing the sensible growth of rule sets. And also worked a lot in dispute resolution and protecting article from deletion. I got burned out and now just do spot editing discreetly. I became politicized because I was upset that WP had developed an overly protective infrastructure and bureaucracy. Many of us who wrote a lot of articles battled fiercely with policy-wonks on power trips. That being said, we need dedicated people "on the wall" defending the project from spam, vandals, and misinformation. This is so critical to the credibility of the project. Keep up your spirits and energy. 76.103.33.70 (talk) 06:24, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

draft to article

Hi1 Now that I have done my editing of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Isidro_A._T._Savillo, how do I create an article out of it? Towering peaks (talk) 22:37, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Firstly, I want you to look at this page on how to do inline citations, because there seems to be several inline citations that are used more than once. There's a "trick" to where you can maybe assign those inline citations the same number. Then, you'll probably want to look at this page on using too many inline citations, because, frankly, I find your article nearly unreadable.
After you take in the advice and adjust the draft accordingly, you'll want to put {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page, and wait around a month. --I dream of horses (T) @ 22:47, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Kandyan Radala

Hello. Thank you for reading my edit on the topic of Radalas in Kandyan Kingdom. However I think that was mistake to remove my edit as this article is written in accordance to a site called www.karava.org which is a site that provide false information about the history and lineages of Sri Lankan families and hence it's written from a biased view point. The article is not neutral with false facts and I made some amendments to make it more neutral. For example, some families of nobles can easily trace their lineages to King Senarath who ruled before the Nayakkars and their caste is govigama up to date. Although caste system is a lowly practice as human beings, the history of a country and a kingdom is very important as well. Therefore I hope you will not remove my edit again. Thank you. I hope you could investigate in to this information and I'm glad to give you a few sites where you can trace the family lineages of many Kandyan families. Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lasitha1986 (talkcontribs) 01:43, July 23, 2014‎

The edits I made was constructive

The page I edited had actual information a few months back then someone deleted all the data and put just his/her company's profile (eSewa) in the list of e-commerce which is not an e-commerce at all.

I want to remake the page by removing all the previous references since the references quoted are baseless and has no actual reflection of current status of e-commerce in Nepal.

I am a co-auther of a 3 credit University research on E-commerce in Nepal and have the most current data to put in this topic. I hope you can understand and cooperate so I can put this page to the right direction and add authentic and current data.

Hi there. Too bad you changed the right information I gave about Frances Bean Cobain. Frances is not an American visual artist. She says so about herself but she isn't. She is known only as daughter of Kurt and Courtney. Where do you get she is an American visual artist? She only made a few drawings. I wanted to set that right.

I asked you where did you get she is an artist? Can you answer that question for me? Bet you can't. Because she is not an artist. Oh, and she gets to have her own article because she is famous offspring. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Francesbeancobain (talkcontribs) 22:45, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

I am immeasurably disappointed by the haste of your deletion of my edits, you will find that all my attributions were sourced. I would like to be informed of a reason detailing why my altering's of the particular article have been faced such scrutiny and rejection if ,as I would contest they're validity is provable ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterJosephs (talkcontribs) 20:10, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Could you please respond to my question I asked about your inappropriate previous response?

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi I_dream_of_horses, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!

Major changes:

  • Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
  • Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
  • Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:10, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Who do you think you are?

Who do you think you are to decide if someone 'famous' is an artist or not? How do you get to your sources and what are your sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrancesClarification (talkcontribs) 15:40, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, The information previously listed is incorrect. It is simply greater detail of the brands history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NaomiRheinberger (talkcontribs) 01:03, July 31, 2014‎

Actually, what you put in read like an advertisement instead of enclycopedically, and that's why I reverted it. --I dream of horses (T) @ 06:56, 31 July 2014 (UTC) (edited at 06:58, 31 July 2014 (UTC))

I'm wondering if we're being a bit harsh. I deleted User:Dahua Security and User:Ceci Wang -- both the company article, then cautioned her about promoting. Now she's made Dahua Technology. I see only press releases, but there are maybe some good refs out there. She isn't sourcing, and even if she did, the thing would likely fail the general notability guidelines for organizations.

Have I been a bit harsh with my promo deletions lately? I may need a reality check with my my actions to see if I'm straying from right decisions. Feedback? Stalker feedback would be welcome too. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:00, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Maybe it's best to AfD it if it doesn't get improved over the next few days. --I dream of horses (T) @ 07:01, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
It's a tough one. I guess we have to tag based on the article alone, and not the editor's past. Tricky, because this is the third time she's pushed for this article. First was a userpage copyvio. Second was a new username with the article there. This time, however, it seems to have some legitimacy, although it could fail AfD, at least it has a chance. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:05, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, it has a chance. Let's give it that chance. --I dream of horses (T) @ 07:14, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:18, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your message, so I do have a question, it goes:

Could you maybe answer the question I ask you about the incorrect information you claimed to post on the wikipedia page of this offspring? I just asked: How do you get to your sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrancesClarification (talkcontribs) 16:04, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
