Medleys

Do songs like this 20 Homecoming: The Death Of St. Jimmy/East 12th Street/Nobody Likes You/Rock 'n' Roll Girlfriend/We're Coming Home Again Green Day

really count? Is it a medley? I don't think those should count and this one should be taken out if it is one. JohnRussell 19:56, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that it's up to the person who posts to decide if the song or medley belongs on the list. Gbeeker 12:33, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. Wikipedia articles are collective efforts. I've just removed a medley that to me clearly doesn't belong here as it's just the constituent songs seperated by slashes. They're ten a penny. I'd question remixes too. If they belong, then The Orb can be "promoted" with "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld (Loving You) (Why Is Six Scared Of Seven?)" --kingboyk 20:25, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would also vote for deleting medleys. - Rockingharder 19:05, 14 March 2006
I have put a note on the article page to not include medleys. Gbeeker 06:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite plan

Ok, I since I was the one who created this list, I have an idea on how to rewrite it. It would be ordered by the number of words in the title. I am going to make an attempt to do this tonight. If anyone has a better idea to salvage this list, I'd be glad to hear about it. Gbeeker 22:45, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the number of words in the title in parenthesis to the front of each title.
I also removed the confusing template. Now, if someone could create a table of the items something like this:
Words Title Artist
10 This is a sample title that is 10 words long Sample Artist
12 This is a sample title that is 10 no, 12 words long Artist With A Longer Name
That would be great. And then we could probably remove the cleanup. Gbeeker 00:11, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Since I had access to a word counter (awk), I went ahead and updated the article with the number of words, and put them in a table. Gbeeker 02:59, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

How long is "particularly long"? Perhaps it could be split up into a disambig list named "List of Songs with long title names" and then a series of lists like "List of songs with titles of 21-30 letters", "List of songs with titles of 31-40 letters", etc. Karmafist 14:13, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't we just list, say, 50 songs with the longest titles here? I don't really see the need to list every song with more than 10 words somewhere. --Conti| 15:08, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is the purpose of this page?

Does this page serve any practical purpose? --æsahættr 23:38, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say this page serves a similar purpose to the one that a List of highest mountains serves. People want to know the biggest or the most in categories. Gbeeker 12:31, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eliminating Songs with <15 words

There are too many up now, and there are far more. I'd go on at further length, but its rather axiomatic. User:Synflame

I was thinking the same thing just a minute ago. Done. --Conti| 16:45, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
After this list grew, I put in links from the artist listed to this page. Some of those artists now are not in the list, since they had songs with 10-14 words in length. Someone should do a cleanup on those artist pages, and remove the link to this page. If no-one does this soon, I will. Gbeeker 14:31, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, I Guess that rules out Todd Snider's "Conservative Christian, Right Wing, Republican, Straight, White, American Males," with only nine and and Ray Stevens "Jeremiah Peabody's Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green And Purple Pills" with 14, although the character count for these are on par with the 20 word songs. How many did you have to knock out? The high limit seems to leave out noteworthy artists/songs, but keeps a handful of artists who do this repeatedly. MrFizyx 00:07, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Songs removed?

It looks like a number of songs were removed in this edit which were never put back in. Is there any reason why those tracks don't belong on the list? - Rynne 15:22, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the item just above this one on the Talk page. This is a list of songs which have titles of 15 words or longer. - Rockingharder 09:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, my reading comprehension's already pretty good. The ten-word rule doesn't account for The Wildhearts' 33-word "You Got To Get Through What You've Got To Go Through To Get What You Want, But You Got To Know What You Want To Get Through What You Got To Go Through" or Of Montreal's 21-word "Upon Settling On The Frozen Island, Lecithin Presents Claude and Coquelicot with his Animal Creations for Them to Approve or Reject" or T. Rex's 20-word "My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows" or a lot of other songs which were erased in the edit I mentioned. - Rynne 20:35, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, gotcha. I thought you meant when I deleted the songs that had less than 15 words in the title. - Rockingharder 19:04, 14 March 2006
What's this ten word rule? What's wrong with The Wildhearts' 33-word song exactly?
It's a fifteen word rule, and I don't know what's wrong with that song. You could probably put it back in! - Rockingharder 19:04, 14 March 2006

Link to this page on artist pages - opinion?

An admin told me to stop putting a link to this page on artist pages. I don't think it detracts from the artist page, and I feel that the link is important. I wonder if anyone else here agrees with me? One alternative is to put a link on only the song or album page, if one exists. Gbeeker 07:07, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the link is very valuable to bands that have song titles that are 20 words long. IMHO only the longest songs, let's say above 50 words, should have links to this page. Hmm, and bands that have more than one very long title maybe. --Conti| 14:28, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Instructions

Instructions for updating the page should not be placed on the page. See Manual of Style and Lists. These are the instrutions I removed:

  • This is a list of song titles with at least fifteen (15) words.
  • The number of words precedes the title.
  • Add songs in the correct order, sorted by the number of words.
  • If a song page exists, add a see also section with a link to this list.
  • You may include songs with parts of the title in (parenthesis), but do not include songs where an initial title is followed by a long list of individual movement titles.
  • Don't include medleys
  • The number of characters in each song excludes blank spaces.

PANIC! at the disco

I readded the album to the album section thing, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. I put it there before, but someone removed it.

Number of letters needed or not?

I don't think the number of characters in the long songs is needed. I personally don't feel like counting letters. I'd vote to remove that column. I am soliciting your opinion for concensus. Does anyone agree to remove, or want to keep it? Gbeeker 02:47, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Letter count column survey

Results of survey

  • The winner is - Keep with 4 votes.
  • Remove had only 3.

So we are keeping the letter count. Thanks for participating! I just sorted the ties based on characters. --Gbeeker 05:18, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Albums with particularly......

I was wondering if there is an entry made for album titles... I'm sure there are tons that would fit. Here is an example of one: Bear vs. Shark's Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know in a Hurry.

-- Myxomatosis 06:55, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did a search, and it looks like, no, there isn't one right now. You may start one if you like!
-- Gbeeker 10:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just started it right now. i just added particularly to the article title. it can be found here. thanks for the inspiration.
-Myxomatosis 08:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job. I added a link to it here in the see also section.

20 Word Limit?

I only see references on this talk page to a 15-word limit, yet the article states that titles must be at least 20 words long. I've just posted an entry that's 16 words long, and I think it's a "particularly long title." Was this change discussed by contributors to the article, or was it someone's arbitrary decision? --Dmagus 18:23, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you guys aware

This article is going to be deleted soon (unless something changes). Would be a shame if so much work would be lost.  Grue  17:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's too late. I hope they don't delete it but I wouldn't be surprised.-Myxomatosis 21:30, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
