Music Genre article

Hi Doktor Who

I already replied to your notes on my talk page. Then I noticed the {{Unreferenced}} tag you added at Music genre and that you referred to "fanzines crap" in your edit summary. I just wanted to let you know that the changes on that article were not done all at once. There is an editor User:TimNelson who's been doing a lot of work organizing music projects, and he's been discussing the changes, not doing them on his own. He's a good guy, and I suggest you try discussing with him in a friendly way. I think he would be interested in your comments and would welcome your help, so please don't assume he's an adversary.

We do need references on those definitions about fusional origins of genres, do you know where we could find references about that?

Either way, that work was all done in good faith and with discussion, so please give Tim a chance and don't assume he's like some of the other music editors you've had trouble with who don't know what they're doing.

Thanks. --Parsifal Hello 20:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Music, intelligent dance music

Cheer up and smile, it's a wonderful world. I also got some depression after come here. Why will people make something important that is not considered much in the sources? The reason I discovered is the personal investment that the editor has made, I think. The editor invested their time in the music and became in a group of friends in the IDM internet discussion list or the other fan group of music. They found happiness on that island, so if we don't react the same importance then they think we are attacking them closely for personal reason. I got the same feeling some time, then I will read and keep the source and writing very good, hopefully. "Bloody hell", there is another generation of music fans, and he is very popular here, I don't understand him. Have a good day, even when the rain and wind come. Yes, I know that young editors may think that I'm attaching them. My point is that this is an encyclopedia that aims to be a serious site, and not an indiscriminate collection of facts paetaining to popular culture. IDM and other similar articles that I recently tagged with a WP:OR template refer to musical scenes and/or musical movements, or to different styles within a same genre, and are not new musical genres. We have just less than 10 real musical genres, in musicology; IDM, and the various atmospheric forms of rhythmic music are just subgenres of pop->technopop. I am a fan of Aphex Twin, The orb and many others since early 1990s. just i find them more similar to Kraftwerk, notthing to do with Brian Eno. According to musicological and academic methods this music should be called just "Technopop", or "Instrumental Technopop", or "1990s Wave of Technopop". Every kind of music can be "danced with", even the so called "discomusic and "dance music" should be called just "rhytmic pop" or whatever, haha. I would appreciate if you could forward to other users that I'm not trolling your world. I'm taking this site seriously. ^_^. Doktor Who 12:01, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, I saw you in Aphex Twin talk page. Really some other boys came, they are from messageboards. They are so different beyond reality. Really I was angry, but be friends is best. I change IDM in response to you. What do you think? The boys told me IDM is very popular and I looked for many sources, sometimes I find last.fm or another joke. I showed them 40 newspaper articles for Aphex Twin (no idm), really they ignored it. I was shocked. I expect it, this is their culture for them, really, what is it for Aphex Twin? Not much, only on the sides. The only source for Idm is "oh, I HATE IDM grr!!" also other source is some fanzine or myspace or facebook..... ^-^ fufu, ^-^ ! ♪ ☆☆★☆ nobu

Cosmic Disco

Hi - I received your note and looked at the article. I've never heard of that kind of music. I'm not sure if it should have an article or not. One of the references they list quotes a DJ saying he doesn't think it's a genre. But the term does seem to be used about that music scene in 1980's Italy. I'd say, it's not very notable, but it could be enough for an article if someone finds more real references. What do you think? --Parsifal Hello 06:09, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article was named Cosmic music up to yesterday, I moved it to its current location, but I'm not sure if it is the most appropriate title. I would support a merge with Space disco, just as a note, or a full deletion. Space disco was a common term in Italy during late 1970s-early 1980s, and referred to Giorgio Moroder, Dee D. Jackson, and hits by Rockets (a French band) and Kraftwerk. Doktor Who 08:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK, I fixed it. It redirects to Space disco now. I also changed the title from Space Disco to Space disco according to the manual of style WP:MOS --Parsifal Hello 08:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You redirected it again to Space music. Why did you do that? Do you have references that show "Cosmic music" is used for that?--
Maybe it would be better to just delete "Cosmic music" . The right way to do that would be to restore the article and then put a {{PROD}} tag on it. After a few days it will be gone. The way you did it now isn't really fair to the people who worked on it, since it doesn't give them a chance to discuss it they have references or not. What do you think? --Parsifal Hello 09:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it is obvious that 'cosmic' and 'space' refers to the same thing. You are still in the wrong-minded scheme, you believe that you can deal with music genres as they were copyrighted slogans. It is blatantly untrue. Only ppl with no serious academic background can believe that (I suspect that Wikipedia is a bad idea, and that only ppl with a Phd or an equivalent professional expertise should edit an encyclopedic site). Anyway, I support your idea, I would restore the article and then tag it. --Doktor Who 09:44, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your unblock request

In the interests of getting you a fair hearing, I'm not going to actually review and decline your unblock request, but I'd like to point out one thing: you have shown a distinct lack of accountability. For instance, the phrases "It is obvious that I was kidding" and "other editors did nothing to calm us down" don't show a great deal of understanding that you are responsible for the things that you say on-wiki. Rather, it shows that you want other editors to be responsible for what you say. Take responsibility, and your case would get a lot farther, I think... - Philippe | Talk 18:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I used the word "kbeat" as an intentional funny (I believed so) way to mis-write the word "beat", the letter "k" is a clear reference to the "k" in "Doktor",; maybe my almost british (i am trying) humour is not evident, and is likely misunderstood. Apologies if such behaviour may have actually hurted someone. In the future, after my wikibreak, I'll avoid such way of kidding, even if some funny user will try again to involve me in such actions. I will no longer write so much in talk pages, I understand that I cant master properly informal English. Nothing personal against you of course, and many thanks for your kindness. Invitation back to Talk:Electronica

Hi Doktor Who. I've been following the ANI proceedings, and I'm happy to see that things appear to be resolved more amicably above. I'd just like to add that I didn't understand the apparent intended humor in your statements - it looked a lot more like a typo to me, so if you genuinely didn't intend that to be a threat, then I certainly accept your apology as well. In general, I'd like to advise you to consider how it looks to others before you post it - we can't tell what you're thinking, so if it looks like a threat (even meant in humor), we usually have no choice but to treat it as such.

That said, I'd like to invite you back to the discussion at Talk:Electronica when you're ready. (If you're still upset over what's happened in the last 24 hours, I'd advise waiting for a little while.) I'll do my best to facilitate open discussion about the content in that article, and I'll try to mediate it so that if things do start getting heated again, you'll have someone there who can help keep it cool and civil. I'd like to reiterate that I'm on nobody's side here - I'm a neutral third party, and if I see evidence of uncivil behavior or WP:OWN violations by Parsifal or anyone else in the discussion, I will similarly admonish them.

You do have some good points regarding the content issues on Electronica - whether it can be called an official music genre or what not - and I'd like to encourage you to make your points on those issues in the article. You'll be best received in this discussion by (a) making sure that you focus only on the content and not talking about the other editors, and (b) finding and citing references to back up your arguments. For instance, if you know of an official publication, a website that is regarded as an authority on musicology, etc., that states that Electronica is not accepted as a genre, then cite it - provide a link, a title, an author, etc., so that the other editors can go verify it. Remember that everything on Wikipedia must be verifiable.

Do be prepared for people to counter your arguments, too. Just as you have good points on the subject, I'm sure that others will as well. The point here is to move toward consensus. Right now, there seems to be an established consensus on the subject, so you may have an uphill battle ahead of you to change that. But consensus can be changed - it is not uncommon for a consensus to have been reached on incorrect information.

Thanks, and good luck. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 18:53, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello KieferSkunk, your above msg is very welcome, I've read it carefully. Yuri's COI

Hello Dr. Who. Thanks for looking at moodswinger. You are right about the {COI}, I'm aware of that problem when I add information. I want a subjective article, which is also usefull for experimental guitarists who explore prepared guitar techniques and third bridge-guitar, that's why the microtonal tables are so large. Your suggestion to help me is very good news. I will inform you when there is news about the Moodswinger. This won't be much I think. Most information usefull for other musicians is already in the article.

  • One important addition is missing: the instrument is used on Leather Prowler, track 3 of the new Liars (band) album. This cd is released 28-8-07, that's why this info isn't in the article currently.
  • On Third bridge-guitar someone erased all info about the moodswinger without any clear reason. I now think the text was a little too enthousiastic written be me, but removing the moodswinger completly from that topic while leaving in Brad's wonderful Pencilina is very strange. I've noticed this too at the discussion-page of third bridge-guitar, but it is not possible for me to revert this edit, without being accused of {COI}.

Your request to join editing sound-technology-related articles is welcome. My language barrier is one problem, but when you have questions about microtonality or physics related to sound I'll definately want to help you and edit the articles.
