Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

Hi! I was editing for the first time on Wikipedia and used a topic familiar to myself to learn how to get started. I based my contents on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redpine_Signals which is a wiki page that has been around since at least 2011. I wasn't finished with the edits - but now I cannot edit since I am blocked. Can you let me know what I have done wrong and how I can move forward? Many thanks!

I am so sorry - I based my new page on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redpine_Signals, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritech_Technology, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SoftDEL_Systems, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-blox, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parani, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_Networks, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeWave_Technologies, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_Guardian, etc. and I have now learned that it is not allowed to have a page like that. It is difficult to know that though, since there are so many companies that do have pages and information on Wikipedia. However, I understand now that those pages should not exist and I have read the guidelines. I was only testing the tool with my first page before getting into too deep edits on the topics I had planned to add. The topics I have planned to add are areas not yet covered and they are not promotional. So if we can delete the page I did create and then unblock my account, I can get going adding the other informational topics. Thanks for helping out

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Dear administrators, I have now proposed a new username that is not connected to a company but to a person. I have also responded to your questions that I now do understand better how to use Wikipedia. I am still a novis and there may be other things I need to understand. But I promise to tread carefully the next time that I will make edits. Unless I am unblocked I cannot grow, learn and contribute. Can you let me know what further reasons exist to why I am still blocked - as far as I can tell, I have done what I need to do. If I am still not worthy to be unblocked, can you please delete this account - there are no other edits made by this account except for the page which caused the blocking. If I am not considered to be a proper contributor and should not contribute to Wikipedia, then I prefer it that my account is completely removed. Can you advice how to move forward?

(Non-administrator comment) While it's good to see that you have offered a new username that is not attached to a business, it will be helpful to answer those three questions with details that show "how" you understand or interpret those guidelines. Merely stating that you understand the questions does not impart confidence that you are able to accurately follow them. I would recommend revising your response, then be patient until an administrator is able to check out your request. There is no need to keep adding the unblock template. One is enough. You can just add comments below the unblock request. (Just an FYI: we actually don't delete or remove Wikipedia accounts.) Hope this helps. Thanks for the assistance. Let me try to be more detailed in my responses and please let me know if I need to provide more information. This is how I have understood what I have done wrong and how I should do things differently from now on. Firstly, I picked a username related to a company and not an individual - I have now asked for that to be changed. Secondly and thirdly, I created a page for my company in a shape that it looked like an insertion in a business directory; Wikipedia is not meant for an organization, person or cause for promotion purpuses but rather to present neutral unbiased facts backed up with references. Then it is important that any contribution has to be of a significant meaning - there needs to be a significant mention of the topic for it to be considered and secondary sources need to be referred to. And lastly, I erased previous comments on this page in order to keep it clean but have learned that any additions on this page should be kept. There is a whole range of edits needed on pages pertaining to wireless. For instance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_technology is redirected to a wireless page which covers wireless telecommunications, but there is no real overview on the wireless technologies that are available and how they interact and presenting differences between these. The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_low_energy has several incorrect references and facts and is in need of a clear update (for instance the use of BLE is incorrect and since many use Wikipedia as a reference, incorrect facts circle outside of Wikipedia). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11 needs further references added amongst those to add references to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-NII and for that matter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-NII needs updated references and facts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth also contain some incorrect facts and is in need of updates along with a better comparison between Classic Bluetooth technology and Bluetooth low energy technology as well as other wireless technologies. The above are the pages that would be initally worked upon if I would get unblocked. The content updates would not be to promote a company but to ensure that the facts and references are correct and that the information is up-to-date.
