Thank you, edit-a-thon newbie, for your new biography. Now it's deleted.

Time for me to get to commenting on this matter, replying mostly to what you've been saying on Twitter, which I don't see directly but only via Facebook. Quite right; getting a new article past the combined hurdles of WP:NPP and WP:BLP is a bitch. Even old-timers who haven't put much study into this particular specialty can have trouble with it. And we're encouraging it at our edit-a-thons. It's like bringing new mountain climbers to Mount Everest.

In the same room and staring at the same screen my approach is, if that's what they want to do, that's what we'll do. First I'll say, no, that't not a good start, and then guide them carefully up the slope anyway. Last Wednesday at Center for Architecture we were shorthanded due to short notice, but I was pleased to see that our friend @Bluerasberry: was taking the same basic approach, though the details showed a more sophisticated understanding of what bright newbies can do. By this approach we were accepting the height of the hurdles as a given, or at least I was.

You, if I understand, are saying that the hurdles are too high, and that the judges too hastily mark a small irregularity as a fatal failure. That partially explains my own lack of participation in such judgments. Like other parts of our mighty Wikipedia rulebook, the relevant parts have been argued over and revised by people perhaps smarter and definitely more attentive to the issues than me. Like other parts of the underwater 99% of Wikipedia, there's an informal cabal of insiders who understand and trust each other, and as usual the main way to gain power over change is to get into that cabal. That means putting your hand in; learning the rules as they are, patrolling some articles, participating in particular discussions of what should live and what should die, and in general showing your interest. Soon you may be thought worthy of a little Wikipedia:Hat collecting in this specialty, except of course you'll be sincere. Some of my hats have come without even asking; others were quickly and easily approved.

I don't work these questions myself, because my inner demons drive me to narrower specialties such as geographical coordinates and Wikipedia:Categorization. It ain't easy, but not much is.

Speaking of categoriization, when you snap a couple dozen photos of a place such as Millinery Center Synagogue you should make a Commons Category for them, apply a Commons category in the article, and of course not put them in multiple broader grandparental categories of that particular cat.

Whew. I hope this does more good than a bunch of short replies in Facebook / Twitter which would be better for explaining things to outsiders than for trying to fix the things that only insiders can fix. I also hope to see you Saturday. Jim.henderson (talk) 16:16, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

This is a continual problem and I do not know what to do. I commented at Talk:Activist Women's Voices. I can only say thanks for your patience while we try to devise better ways to do things, and if you have suggestions, they are welcome. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:50, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both @Bluerasberry: and @Jim.henderson: for your kind words and Jim I always enjoy reading what you have to say (such beautiful writing!). Apologies I got the flu so I'm a bit out of it and haven't talked with @DGG: directly (who initially deleted the content) but hear through this muzzy fog what both of you are saying.
The irony of this situation is that the section that is in dispute, upon contact with the librarian at CUNY Graduate Center who oversees the collection, agreed that the collection would be a great centerpiece for a Wikipedia Editathon. But if that section is deleted then an editathon and possible engagement with an educational partner is a no go? I find this all very disturbing and counter productive, especially from a librarian's perspective and as a Wikipedian trying at add content to Wikipedia. Real content, not just policing Wikipedia content.
I am expecting an informative and kindly intentioned lecture that includes a bunch of Wikipedia rules to be used as an argument against this content's inclusion. I disagree fundamentally. This fear of content -- especially clearly cited content -- is a huge problem. I think it's a bad thing for Wikipedia, on a fundamental level. Not to mention the hypocrisy of it all, with the gajillion pages on The Simpsons out there....
Jim I hear what you say about becoming part of the cabal, which I had hoped contributing to the Wikimedia NYC chapter would support and improve things over here on Wikipedia. I think that it has a lot, as I now have friends such as yourself who give me trusty advice and positive encouragement. I am grateful. But I have zero interest in patrolling new pages and doing Requests for Speedy deletions. #ugh If I see a good page that needs patrolling I'll click through that but no way do I support deleting content.
Re: Millinery Center Synagogue Commons categories I've obviously screwed that up. Would you mind talking with me at the next editathon and I will fix it with your guidance, Jim? Categories make zero sense to me, obviously. Very confusing. I think it would be a great lightning talk topic at our next WikiWednesday -- maybe if we work together I could throw some sort of presentation / How To together at some point to support helping others learn this thing?
Again, thanks to you both, Jim and Lane. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 21:38, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Get well soon.
Changing the rules is possible. If you want to go that route, a good way to start is by writing "This is the rule, this is the way that I am breaking it, and things are better this way because..." Practically everyone who proposes rule changes on Wikipedia refuses to acknowledge the existence of the rules they propose to change, why the original system was voted into place, or how their new proposed way differs from the other way.
You are definitely in the majority. Practically everyone in the world thinks that the system you are proposing is the best way to manage Wikipedia. There are many more people who insult Wikipedia than there are people who contribute to it, and practically all of the criticism of Wikipedia is that Wikipedia fails to operate by the process you just described. You are on the side of the most respected authorities and educated commentators when you make the suggestion you are making.
Be well and let's talk soon as you like. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:05, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Lane. I wrote you back over at Talk:Activist Women's Voices as well. Where can I go to do this? I would be VERY interested in helping to change the rules. And if other more experienced editors are of the like mind and would be supportive, I am not afraid of sticking my neck out there and doing hard work. My goal: I want new editors to not have to go through this. It breaks my heart to see very Wikipedia-capable folks at editathons so excited to contribute to Wikipedia -- only to back away and lose interest when their entries are deleted or their content disputed. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 22:11, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
I will start a new section below about changing rules. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

BrillLyle, it will be easier to explain what I was intending at the article if you call me, or in person on Saturday at MOMA. But I am in the process of writing something up for the talk page there; After I do , we can discuss it here. I don't like to write things lsuch as this without thinking them over.

In other matters, about 25% of WP articles from editathons have had problems sufficient that they either could or must be deleted. The only way to avoid this is either to have the new editors check with someone experienced, or to write in draft space. Some subjects are trickier than others. , Fortunately, for visual artists there are simple rules which guarantee notability. But even following them, there's always the chance that a poorly documented BLP will be deleted. For subject such as activists, it's much more difficult to specify, and neither I nor anyone else can be sure what would happen at an afd.

The way to gain power is not necessarily to be part of a cabal--some very experienced and respected editors work quite independently and decline all contact with other WPedians. the way to learn the practical rules here is by experience, and there is no substitute for it. This is one of the situations where the formal rulebook is only a start, being both incomplete and contradictory and in some parts obsolete. The interpretation is everything. I and almost everyone else here had some of my first articles deleted, and my first major changes & proposals rejected. Before I started, I had watched long enough to expect it and figure out how I would deal with it. My experience in other aspects of life has been similar. There's nothing personal or professional or avocational I've been able to do well, except by practicing first. DGG ( talk ) 22:37, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks David. That sounds good. I'm sick with the flu and can't really talk on the phone right now (sore throat is making this a problem) so maybe in person on Saturday in person at the editathon might be best, if you don't mind...? I would like to understand this better and try to make sure this content remains. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 22:51, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

A somewhat similar problem was easier for me to understand a couple years ago when I wanted to mix in another passion, bicycling. Yes, I've edited many bike articles and some are almost entirely my material. But, tours are often guided by turn sheets. Turn right on Old Barn Road, three miles to County Road 14, turn left. Like that. Wouldn't it be nice if people like me who have memorized a few and have a few more on paper, formed a lot of Wikipedia pages linked to one another? No, it's no WP:Encyclopedic. So, how about Wikihow? It's about telling people how, right? No, that's not what they have in mind. Then, Wikivoyage. No, they don't like it either. So, this would apparently involve either working hard at persuading people at one of those, or starting my own specialized wiki, as there are ones on many other topics that fall outside Wikipedia scope. But, I'm busy enough as is, so no, it won't happen. You, too, are pointing out a useful job that a wiki could do well. Just not this biggest, grandest wiki. Jim.henderson (talk) 20:31, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Jim.henderson I hate to be super annoying but I'm POSITIVE there's an app that lists great bike routes -- especially on the eastern seaboard. My brother is a bike person as well, and I was looking for something similar for him -- but he's out in the wilds of New Jersey. I could try and look for the app I saw if you want.
This actually sounds like a great Open Street Maps project. :-) -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 04:33, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Changing rules - a library special collection

There was a discussion at Talk:Activist Women's Voices about some content you added. The situation was that "Activist Women's Voices" is the name of a special collection at a certain library. You added information about that collection in an article about that collection, and you cited the library's own self-published works as your source, or otherwise, you cited no source. This conflicted with two Wikipedia rules -

  1. Citations after content (WP:V and WP:NPOV)
  2. Sources cited must be reliable (WP:RS and WP:NPOV)

Deconstructing what you did to a typical Wikipedia perspective, the article "Activist Women's Voices" is a product page for the library organization and the sources cited were promotional. Wikipedia historically has treated all the following situations in the same way -

  • Offerings of a GLAM institution
  • Product lists of any company
  • Services of a nonprofit organization
  • List of accomplishments of any person or organization
  • Institutions, departments, or subdivisions in an organization, foundation, city, or country

In almost all of these cases, the most extensive information about the subject of the article will be self published. Wikipedia historically has not allowed this content to be included when the only sources presenting the information are self published. Part of "NPOV" is having Wikipedia cover how sources without a financial relationship to the subject of the article perceive a topic, and avoiding presenting the views of those with a direct financial interest. In this case - the library benefits from having its special collection promoted in Wikipedia. If we want change, here are some ideas.

  1. Question why practically all organizations (including GLAM institutions) are media averse. If the information you added about the special collection had come from a third party source, there never would have been a problem with you adding it. There are enough journalists and bloggers, especially student and hobbyist writers, that the nonprofit sector could be better covered. If nothing else, universities could have journalism students cover things like institutional special collections in the student newspaper, but this rarely happens. Consider to what extent organizations seek to make themselves difficult to interview, be researched, or be the topic of discussion. Why do sources not exist, and what can change outside of Wikipedia to make them appear?
  2. In Wikipedia, change the rule about what constitutes a reliable source. Saying that self-published materials for product listings should be allowed is one route, and it opens the doors for companies to do this along with libraries and their collections. Another route is making some nuanced suggestion about why some libraries in some situations merit a special exception, then saying who else gets a special exception. Elsevier is one of the most important libraries in the world - can they provide their special collection list in Wikipedia?
  3. In Wikipedia, change rules about needing citations. Already this is a grey area, with some people saying Wikipedia should be verifiable and some people saying that content does not need citations. Right now, there can be arguments over whether information without references should be included. Some people make arguments that users can put information into Wikipedia without citations, and need not verify it, but still it should remain. This happens routinely with certain kinds of primary data, like revenue of corporations or the population of some villages in some countries. You might argue that special collections of libraries does not required external citations, or maybe no citation at all, because it is analogous to other kinds of facts which Wikipedia includes without verification.
  4. Disregard changing rules, and just propose a new rule which would allow you to do what you want. All the rules have a history and were new at some point.
  5. Consider new models of engagement. For example, there is almost no curation in WP: space or in Commons. Library special collection pages would be uncontroversial in a WP: space which could be used for launching community outreach, which was your goal. There is already demand for this and no model case.

There are many other options, but this is a start. Thoughts? Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of James Dybas

The article James Dybas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Understudy is not notable. If notable as a TV actor, then it's not showing.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. help?

Hi! Thanks for your help, again. I'm just trying to clean up our page. Wondering if you can help me unlink the New Orleans meetup page from the Black Lunch Table's meetup page now that we are finished? Thanks!--Heathart (talk) 19:29, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

@Heathart: Hiya! I used the Move button at the top to move your page to an event archived page, and stripped the "Home" page of content, removing the redirect.... I don't think I was very organized about it, but it seems fine now.
Also restored the New Orleans meetup page, leaving a link with the event there as well...
Let me know if you have any questions. I can prob respond on gmail chat easier. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 20:11, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
@BrillLyle: So it looks like our Outcomes were not copied correctly. We created 4 pages and i don't see that on our main page anymore... nor moved to the outcomes page. also looks like we are missing some of the attendees i added... looks like an old version of the page missing some stuff.- also one of our pages was deleted (for Carl Joe Williams) but there was no warning and i don't understand why!-Heathart (talk) 16:19, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
@Heathart: The event page can be found on the Event Archie page, by following the link there. The BLT "home page" no longer has the event information -- and can now be used for upcoming events. To put the Outcomes on the Outcomes tab, you'll need to copy them from the event page...
And yeah, deleted pages are a problem. Looks like you got that sorted though. BrillLyle (talk) 00:46, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. There is no special exception to WP:NFCC for partner events. The policy is explicit; the use of non-free images outside of articles is strictly prohibited. If you wish to seek a special exception for this page, you can do so at WT:NFC. It is highly unlikely one would be granted, but you are welcome to try. I have reverted your re-addition of the policy violating content. Please do not restore it without seeking an exception. If you have questions, ask. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:46, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

@Hammersoft: I disagree with the policy and think it's pretty obvious it doesn't serve anyone's interests. It needs to be re-evalutated, especially since all of this is in support of encouraging editors to join and add to Wikipedia. BrillLyle (talk) 18:00, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

This month, we will also host a Newcomer's Wiki Workshop for those getting started on the encyclopedia project!

We will also include a look at our annual plan and budget ideas, and welcome input from community members on the sorts of projects the chapter should support through both volunteer and budgetary efforts.

We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. We will also follow up on plans for recent and upcoming editathons, and other outreach activities.

After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

7:00pm - 9:00 pm at Babycastles gallery, 137 West 14th Street

We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! (One talk this month will be on use of Wikipedia press passes for photographers.) Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 13:38, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

WikiD Materials

Hi BrillLyle, can you share the WikiD materials you mentioned? I would like to see what they have, and what we can learn from. Thanks. --Theredproject (talk) 00:26, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Theredproject:! Here are the WikiD materials, pulled verboten from the wikiD @ Seaport event page. I can't seem to remember the person who I think is the main contact who created them, but @Pharos: definitely knows....
Introduction and Guide 1: Getting Started! – Why Edit Wikipedia?, Using the WikiD Guides and Getting Started.
Guide 2: Selecting and Researching a Topic/Subject – Choosing a Subject, References and Sources and Images.
Guide 3: Writing an Entry – Tone and Style, Content and Structure, Building an Argument, Precedents and Article Titles.
Guide 4: Navigating the Wikipedia Interface – Editing Interfaces, Creating a New Article, Editing Existing Pages and Disambiguation
Guide 5: Troubleshooting – Deleted Pages, Flagged Pages and Talk Pages

Also, we've got a semi-curated list of Resources that might be worth looking through, though I suspect we got many of them from A+F!

Loved your contributions and thoughts tonight. Thank you so much! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 04:05, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Saturday January 16: Wikipedia Day NYC 2016

You are invited to join us at New York University for Wikipedia Day NYC 2016, a Wikipedia celebration and mini-conference as part of Wikipedia 15, the project's global 15th birthday festivities. In addition to the party, the event will be a participatory unconference, with plenary panels, lightning talks, and of course open space sessions.

We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.

10:00am - 7:00 pm at NYU ITP Tisch School of the Arts, 721 Broadway (between Waverly and Washington Place)

We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 17:56, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

ISBN

Hi BrillLyle. I've just come across two additions you've made, both of which contained an ISBN which was incorrect. The number must be ten or thirteen digits long, and if it's the latter, it begins with "9-" usually "978-". I've corrected them, so no harm done, but just thought i'd drop you a note for the future; cheers, LindsayHello 10:36, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

@LindsayH: Thanks so much Lindsay! Do you happen to know which ones I screwed up? -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 14:56, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
Not to worry! The two articles i found were this one and this. You can see my correction of the ISBN (Kahtar is me ~ an alternate account i use). Hope this helps ~ cheers, LindsayHello 15:21, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
@LindsayH: Ah, thank you! It's a mirror edit so mirror mistakes.... Thanks so much for catching! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 15:34, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Categorization

Please can you check your revert of my edit at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/AfroCrowd/AfroCROWD/Sept 2015 and either re-revert or explain why you think that page should be categorized in an articles (i.e. enyclopedia content) category (as well as categories for Wikipedia administration). Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain, Sr.

Hello, my friend. Sorry to revert. I tend not to. If you revert again, please do so after reading the MOS link in the edit summary. The media hasn't named the event that way, I did for lack of a better title. Also, the word "killing" should not be capitalized either way. All the best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:33, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Sure, bold Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain, Sr. because that redirects to the article. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:34, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the follow up. I try to not revert either, but to have zero bold seems intuitively wrong for Wiki ledes... I checked Category:People shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States and spot checked what was done in those instances.... All the best -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 02:42, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
I spot-checked too. Plenty of all bold contrary to MOS and also name only bold. I know what you mean about no bold. It looks odd. But then again, MOS is odd sometimes. :) Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:46, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 21

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Amal Clooney, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Azerbaijani. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Women in Red Black Women's History

Hi BrillLyle. Thanks for taking such an active interest in this event and making substantial improvements to the editathon page. I see you moved the event banner from the "Add these to article talkpages" section to "Outcomes". I have moved it back as it has proved very effective where it was for previous events, as it should indeed be added to the talk page along with the WikiProject banners. (BTW, most of the articles under Outcomes are not added by the editors themselves but by those of us who monitor day-to-day progress.) This said, I'm really very glad to see you doing so much to help us along.--Ipigott (talk) 10:08, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Re: ArtAndFeminism

This is the cleanest the main A+F page has ever looked. Finding cities is easy, entries are consistent, and the archive will be very helpful. Thank you for your work on improving this page and making project pages more consistent and connected to one another. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:14, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Another Believer: Thank you for saying this...! I feel like we are working together -- I struggle with (and have zero ability with) categories so I've seen you whip through and clean these up. I'm so grateful! :-) Let me know if you have any feedback, suggestions, etc. I'm trying to figure out a way to set up really clean template pages for editathons a la "Editathon-in-a-Box" that Dorothy Howard talked about in a presentation she gave last year. It would really help, I hope, with gathering metrics -- which is also something I'm working on! All the best to you! And thanks again! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 21:18, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Adding the Facebook links is a fantastic idea! Thanks for helping to make organizing so much easier for those who may be interested. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:44, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

@Another Believer: Hiya! Thanks.... We'll see if they delete the logos -- I've added cultural partner logos to Wikimedia New York City event pages and Talk pages (to personalize the Welcome messages post-event) and have had them very firmly deleted.... Hopefully these will stick! All the best to you! - Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 23:48, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah, ok. I think they are very helpful, especially since so many people use FB. I could see privacy possibly being a concern, but people aren't forced to confirm their interest or attendance. We'll see... ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:50, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
@Another Believer: It's more of an issue of the use of a logo on a non-mainspace Wikipedia page. Like there's some arcane rule that objects to the use of logos on Talk pages and unfortunately Wikipedia:Meetup sub pages. It's very annoying, as this is to build outreach and encourage editors, so it seems like it should be allowed as it enhances the encyclopedia, but then again lots of stuff like this is in effect here. Drives me bonkers! :-) -- BrillLyle (talk) 23:55, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see, it's a fair use issue. If the image doesn't live at Commons, perhaps one from here can be used. Probably not for us to decide, but it seems there should be an image we can use that references FB without violating use of their logo. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:58, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Nope. This image and others I've used lives on Commons. It doesn't matter. There's some dumb rule that anywhere but on the main pages they don't want logos. Because Wikipedia is not all text enough as it is, eh? :-) There are loads of these icon logos up on Commons and they are all "kosher" -- I even uploaded a new one with the exact file name from the facebook brand website (so it's super official and has the right license on it I think). Click through the image and you'll see. So.... #blech :-) BrillLyle (talk) 00:02, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Edit-a-thon cleanup

Hey Brill!

No worries about the inadvertent changes on our upcoming edit-a-thon. Thanks for sliding things back, and for your work on NYC edit-a-thons!

Cheers, Verbistheword (talk) 14:59, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Hiya @Verbistheword:! Thanks for understanding. I felt really bad about that! I see you participated remotely on the 2013 Brown Ada Lovelace editathon too! That was my entree into Wikipedia editing. If there's anything you need assistance with for your event -- or going forward -- let me know! All the best, and nice to meet you! p.s. do you know my friend Joe M at NPR? I went to grad school with him.... Told him about your event.... -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 15:06, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Wow! What a fun coincidence, @BrillLyle: Might be fun to chat more—feel free to send me a note via my contact form. I've been curious about Wikidata, but haven't jumped in yet. As for help with events, though I think we're covered for the Black History month event, we've got a Rare Disease Day edit-a-thon in the works, too, for the end of Feb and so far likely to happen in DC and St. Louis... —Veronica aka Verbistheword (talk) 15:25, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
@Verbistheword: Interesting -- Rare Disease Day! Did not know it's a thing.... I will check it out. I am constantly amazed at how much I learn every time I'm on Wikipedia....
Oh, forgot to mention that I added your event to the Black WikiHistory template as well as the Meetup box here I think all of the events listed on the BWikiHist project page are getting pushed to these places too... Hope that is okay.
Is there a Google calendar that DC maintains anywhere, do you know? I'm the WM NYC Secretary and we have started maintaining a Google calendar. Would be happy to share if you'd like. Let me know! Best to you... -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 17:05, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi BrillLyle! DC doesn't use a Google calendar; our "official" calendar is the one on wikimediadc.org, and we copy most (but not all) event announcements from it to our other public calendars (Meetup.com, Facebook, Wikipedia:Meetup/DC, etc.). Kirill Lokshin (talk) 18:47, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi Kirill Lokshin! Thanks so much. Was wondering what you all do. Well if you need any calendar items from any WM NYC events it's available on Google / iCal / html. I've also been keeping an Art+Feminism one for the global events, as well as for Black WikiProject events. Thanks again for the info! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 19:42, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
And just a heads up, @Verbistheword:& Kirill Lokshin: there's a Wiki-friendly calendar that is deployed over in Phabricator here -- might be of interest to us chapters who are pretty active. Would definitely reduce some of the effort of keeping multiple entities updated, theoretically. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 19:44, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

hi

I just created the Thomas James Reddy page and it says "disambiguation" what the heck is that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LisianthusDahlia (talkcontribs) 01:45, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi @LisianthusDahlia:! Looks like you did a lot of work on this entry. Great job. I removed the disambiguation link at the top -- I think it was a remnant of the Bowie page maybe. Disambiguation means there could be multiple people with the same name, so they have a list that you can choose from. Here's the page on it, but it's probably more than you need. Disambiguation -- Let me know if you have any other questions! BrillLyle (talk) 02:41, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
