Spoilers

We don't give spoiler warnings. See Wikipedia:Spoiler. Fences&Windows 19:57, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've read it. Still, I think another rule should also be added in that case. That whenever there is a plot description, it should be complete. Now stories sometimes only have a plot introduction and sometimes a complete plot description. Before you read it, you never know what it is, so you never know if it is safe to read before watching/reading the work. From an encyclopedic point of view, I believe the plot description should be complete and not just an introduction (Wikipedia is not a review magazine or advertising means). This way it would also be more clear that you should *never* read the plot section and warnings are not needed anymore. W3ird N3rd (talk) 20:29, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary covers a lot of this ground. Fences&Windows 01:38, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi i believe you caught Logat as a sock previously but he is back with disruptive editing with ip address 84.81.77.172, what points out in his edits is that, he likes to label the Ajuran sultanate as an empire, one of his socks cosbey does this here [1] [2]

Regarding your linked comment on another user's talk page (as well as the linked discussion at Commons), the language is quite offensive, sexist even. I realize that the majority of editors in Wikipedia and Commons are guys, and locker room talk will ensue, but your commentary as well as the content at the link you provided to your Commons talk page is over the top and should not be highlighted or referenced, even in jest. As I stated, it's highly offensive and sexist in nature. Imagine if what you wrote were to reference race - would it be allowed to stand? It would not. Please archive or delete immediately. If you do not, "others" will have to be notified (both here and at Commons). Thanks. -- ψλ 17:13, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I archived it to prevent any further comments on that thread, but otherwise I don't see the problem. It was directed at me and it didn't hurt my feelings. Nobody else should feel offended for crap that was directed at me. Alexis Jazz (talk) 17:39, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're almost there. Now you need to delete the sexist comment at Pants' talk page. -- ψλ 17:37, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nah not interested. Alexis Jazz (talk) 17:39, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Suit yourself. -- ψλ 17:57, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These texts were called to my attention. I just want to say that I find this kind of language massively offensive, from a number of viewpoints. If it hadn't already been archived I would have deleted it and revdel'ed it. We are allowed a certain leeway at our own talk pages, but common decency and a respect for others ought to argue against this kind of talk. --MelanieN (talk) 18:44, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Well, come to think of it, I couldn't revdel at commons. Maybe this kind of talk is considered normal at Commons, I don't know. But I think it would be best to keep it out of enwiki. --MelanieN (talk) 18:49, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Were I an admin, I'd have revdelled them on sight, too. However, if the target of that abuse wants to preserve it as a memento, it's hardly anyone else's place to refuse them that. WP is not censored, and I would presume commons isn't, either, but both sites remain one of the more civil places on the internet. Indeed, if merely encountering sexist language is enough to offend someone, then they should get off the internet post haste. Certainly before they encounter reddit, facebook or youtube, all of which outdo the wikimedia sites in spades when it comes to offensive language. The suggestion that we must defy the judgement of our own editors in order to preserve some subjective standard of "decency" (that will vary from person to person) is almost as offensive to me as intentionally male-gendering someone with a female user name.
Also, I'm rather fond of the phrase as posted to my talk. I would certainly like to keep it as a reminder of the incoherent rage some editors experience when they don't get their way. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 19:13, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Intentional male gendering..."? Not at all. I thought Alexis was a guy. There's nothing in Alexis' userspace indicating gender. If he or she is not a male, my error. If he or she was offended, I apologize. But there was certainly nothing intentional happening when I referred to Alexis as male. To me, it's a male name (am I incorrect?) [6] [7] [8] -- ψλ 19:20, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) reddit, facebook or youtube, all of which outdo the wikimedia sites in spades when it comes to offensive language And luckily, this isn't reddit, facebook or youtube. People who don't like that kind of language can stay away from those sites. But this is an encyclopedia, not a see-who-can-be-the-most-insulting discussion board, and some professionalism is expected here. As for MPants' page, they can keep it if they want. It's not the use of a stray word or two that I have a problem with. It's the vicious name calling using every offensive word in the book. --MelanieN (talk) 19:37, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTCENSORED. We're better than those sites even with that insult here. Again, anyone who can't handle reading offensive words should sign off, and not waste Wikipedian's time dealing with their offense. I'm sure everyone here except Winkelvi has better things to do than worry about this sentence. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 19:45, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you didn't read what I said. To repeat: As for MPants' page, they can keep it if they want. It's not the use of a stray word or two that I have a problem with. It's the vicious name calling using every offensive word in the book. --MelanieN (talk) 19:48, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I read it, and my response was directly to that portion of your comment. Did you not read mine, where I said we all have better things to do? For example, warning Niyaxm here on WP that any repetition of that behavior will result in an indef might be a productive uise of an admins' time, hint hint. Arguing with me certainly isn't going to accomplish anything. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 20:48, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Maybe this kind of talk is considered normal at Commons, I don't know."
@MelanieN: Of course not. The user (who may have started socking) that wrote that has been blocked for a month. (they also flipped off an admin and called another user an "ugly ass" among other things) But why wouldn't I be allowed to keep their abusive language that was directed at me on my talk page?
FYI, about the misplaced need that was felt to "protect" women. If my name had been "Arnold Jazz" and the abusive comment had been something like "Go play with your wiener, you need some release asshole" everything would have been exactly the same. Alexis Jazz (talk) 20:42, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
Alexis Jazz,

I am writing to you to let you know that I read the message sent to me yesterday, August 4, 2018.

I just erased the text in the General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena Wikipedia article that had a link to the book La Guerra Civil Ecuatoreans de 1895 because on further research on the book it was still under Ecuadorian copyright law because the author, Elias Munoz Vicuna had died in 1987 or within the 70 years of the author's death to have the copyright of the book to expire. Therefore, not to cause any problems for Wikipedia, I removed the text that referenced the book and erased the citation of the book in the reference section. Therefore, the link to the book has been removed. This I did even though the book is listed in about a dozen U.S. and International libraries in worldcat.org.

Since I am a very new Wikipedia contributor, I decided to play it safe and I pulled any reference to the file Gatazo.pdf.pdf.

However, I told the reader to where to go to look up Colonel Juan Francisco Morales Llerena's report to Jefe Supremo General Eloy Alfaro, which was in the worldcat.org and in libraries in Ecuador.

There was some talk about the question of deleting the three files as follows:

[https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mensaje_del_Presidente_about_GenMoralesPagina274.pdf https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mensaje_del_Presidente_about_GenMoralesPagina276.pdf https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mensaje_del_Presidente_about_GenMoralesPagina275.pdf

The above three files were taken from the book entitled "Recopilation De Mensajes Dirijidos Por Los Presidentes Y Vicepresidentes De La Republica: Jefes Supremos Y Gobiernos Provisorios A Las Convenciones Y Congresos Nacionales Desde El Ano De 1819 Hasta Nuestro Dias, Volumes 4-5... This book was published in 1901. Hence by U.S. and Ecuadorean copyright law, the book is out of copyright protection.

As to the images of Juan Francisco Morales Llerena, those photos were made no later than 1901 because he died in 1901. That means that the files of General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena are not protected by U.S. and Ecuadorean copyright Ecuadorean copyright protection ends 70 years after the copyright's holder's death.

Please, notify me whether something has been deleted or not.

I am awarding the Barnstar to you for the immense amount of patience that you possess, especially when dealing with the newbie Wikipedia contributors.

Regards,

Bodvar Antonio Gregersen .

Bodvar Antonio Gregersen (talk) 17:23, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bodvar Antonio Gregersen: File:Gatazo.pdf is probably fine (letter from Juan Francisco Morales) and File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina274.pdf, File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina275.pdf and File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina276.pdf are probably fine as well. They appear to be a letter from Eloy Alfaro, is this correct?
By the way, I'm not an admin, so I've earned a barnstar that is probably very rare for users.. Alexis Jazz (talk) 17:39, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First, Alexis, the work that you and your fellow editors have done on my Wikipedia article of General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena is most deserving of this Barnestar award because it is your work that keep contributors like myself plugging away at our Wikipedia projects!

To answer your question about the files referring to the Message of the President of the Republic written by President Eloy Alfaro to the National Congress and which was dated Quito, March 15, 1897.

I included the 3 page document as a footnote so a reader could read the entire document and also could read that the Message was signed by President Eloy Alfaro in March 15, 1897.

I found out through the Wikipedia editing process that the book "La Guerra Civil Ecuatoreana de 1895" is available at the University of Texas's Benson Latin American Library. This book is 520 pages in length and it is considered to be the authority on the Ecuadorean Civil War of 1895. This war was a watershed moment which led to the modern state of Ecuador. I will be visiting the Benson library to see what I can find for my Wikipedia article on General Morales Llerena. I hope to find the mother-lode of information about the General when I visit the Benson Latin American Library in Austin, Texas.

Thank you and your fellow Wikipedia editors for the vast amount of help you have shown me.

Regards,

Carl Barks photo

I am indeed the author/photographer/uploader of this photo. It seems like someone has transferred the image to another wiki or to Commons, and then deleted my original. Not nice... IIRC, I had a note on the original page stating Must be accompanied by credit line "Photo 1994 by J-E Nyström" if used outside Wikipedia. Compare with the credit line on my photo of Frank Thomas [[9]] – Regarding mods, I can't tell for sure, since the original has disappeared. Maybe a slight crop? I just posted this response on the Village Pump at commons. though you might be interested. It is about Virginiaa Historical Markers on Hiways.

Highway markers are not memorials. No copyright applies in regards to the contents of the signs and their view (and photos) from the public ROW .

What is the sign? We may be able to use it for our online marker database and search, if the photo is missing.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:16, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Yermi.mp4 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DICE (band)

... but, it seems, you weren't motivated to add any sources or improve the article in any way. Fair enough. Ravenswing 06:20, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ravenswing: WP:NOTCLEANUP. I don't have a problem with a deletion discussion for DICE (band) (which you just started), I just don't see the hurry to delete an article that's been around for over a decade and isn't obviously failing notability. Most sources are not in English which makes it more difficult for me to examine them (I dumped some on the talk page though), also, I had to go. - Alexis Jazz 06:29, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See, this is where I stand on the subject. An article that's been notability tagged for over a decade doesn't mean "well, let's give it another decade, shall we?" It means that it's high time to fish or cut bait. There's been no hurry at all, not for nearly twelve years. Since Wikipedia is indeed in the business of having notability criteria, and requirements for the survival of articles, there is a point where enough is enough. Seven days is plenty of time for interested parties to find sources satisfying WP:NBAND. If there wasn't enough time to put such sources into the article, then there wasn't enough time to deprod it. Ravenswing 06:51, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ravenswing: No, seven days is generally not enough for specialist subjects, which such articles tend to be because articles about things like water or fire tend not to get PRODded. In this case you need someone who knows plenty about music and preferably understands German. Such a person may not show up within a week. We are all volunteers here. The argument could also be reversed: for over a decade, nobody could be arsed to suggest deleting the article. Why didn't anyone PROD it within seven days of the creation of the article? Seven days is plenty of time for interested parties to do that. I respect starting a discussion, but don't railroad people into spending time on articles you want them to spend time on under threat of deletion. - Alexis Jazz 07:09, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
