Although blues was evolved at the end of the 19th century, the genre was popularity in the 1910s with published two songs titled "Dallas Blues" (written by Hart Wand and published in 1912) and "Saint Louis Blues" (written by W. Later, in 1922, the song "My Man Rocks Me (With One Steady Roll)" by Trixie Smith, many sources described it as the first rock and roll record because its secular lyrics refer to "rocking" and "rolling".

Although many blues and jazz performers used the term "rock and roll" in their songs at the time, but the genre was not widely used to describe a musical genre until the 1950s.
