The Independent Review (TIR), subtitled A Journal of Political Economy, is a peer-reviewed quarterly interdisciplinary journal devoted to the study of political economy and the critical analysis of government policy. It is published by The Independent Institute, a libertarian think tank in the United States, and the articles it publishes are generally written from a libertarian perspective.[2] The journal was created in 1996.[2]
Format
TIR publishes issues quarterly. All current and past issues are available for free on the website.[2] Individuals and institutions can also subscribe to the print version of the publication.[3]
Manuscripts may be submitted by email as Microsoft Word documents of length at most 10,000 words and conforming to TIR's style guidelines.[4]
History
TIR was created in 1996. Until 2013, Robert Higgs was the chief editor. In 2013, Higgs switched to the role of Editor at Large and Christopher Coyne, Michael Munger, and Robert Whaples took over the job, with Whaples as the Managing Editor.[2][1][5][6]

The other two chief editors are Christopher Coyne and Michael Munger.[1][5][6] Contributing editors include Steve Hanke, Timur Kuran, Loren Lomasky, and others.[1] The board of advisors includes Richard Epstein, Deepak Lal, Deirdre McCloskey, Bruce Yandle, Leland Yeager, and others.[1]
Reception
TIR has been praised by many economists, political scientists, and public policy wonks including Gary Becker, Julian Simon, David Frum, and William Niskanen.[7] It was also listed by Walter Block in a list of "Austro-libertarian movement journals" published on the website of the Ludwig von Mises Institute.[8]
Individual articles in TIR are frequently shared and discussed on blogs related to economics, libertarianism, and public policy.[9][10][11][12][13]
