Acceleration of SUGURI (アクセラレーション オブ スグリ) is a fighting game by the doujin circle, Orange_Juice. It was first released during the 70th Comiket in Japan on August 13, 2006[1] as a sequel to SUGURI, but unlike its predecessor, Acceleration of SUGURI is a hybrid of a fighting game and a shoot 'em up that features single player, local and online multiplayer modes. An expansion pack to the game, Acceleration of SUGURI X-Edition, was later during the 71st Comiket, which adds more unlockable characters and extra two story modes.

Rockin' Android, an independent doujin localization company, has localized the game and the expansion pack in English through digital distribution services such as Direct2Drive in North America on June 23, 2009. The game was also released in retail form (through their official website) as SUGURI - Perfect Edition, which includes SUGURI, Acceleration of SUGURI, Acceleration of SUGURI X-Edition expansion pack, and two original soundtracks in one disc on June 30, 2009 for PC. Rockin' Android later released a home console port of Acceleration of SUGURI X-Edition for the PlayStation 3 on February 15, 2011 through the PlayStation Store.

On August 13, 2011, Acceleration of SUGURI 2, a sequel to Acceleration of SUGURI was released during the 80th Summer Comiket PC. The game features both the cast from SUGURI and sora as playable characters.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Acceleration of SUGURI is a hybrid of a fighting game and its predecessor as a shoot 'em up. Two players fight against each other within a circular ring in a 2D perspective. The game was heavily influenced by G.rev's Senko no Ronde and partially by Taito's Psychic Force, although since it uses gameplay elements and mechanics from SUGURI, it stands out as its own game.[2]

PlayStation 3 version

On February 15, 2011, Rockin' Android released a console port of Acceleration of SUGURI X-Edition onto the PlayStation 3 as a downloadable game through the PlayStation Store. This version featured new character artwork by redone Keiko Sakurai, high-definition visuals with a remade user interface, widescreen presentation, local and online leaderboards, sharable replays, and 14 PlayStation Network trophies. It also features a PlayStation 3 theme, wallpaper, avatars, and its soundtrack. This version however loses the online function of its PC counterpart. Although the character artwork was remade for the most part, the original character artwork during the story mode of the game remained untouched.
