Laibach German (German: Laibacher Deutsch) was a South German dialect spoken in Ljubljana (German: Laibach).

Since the Baiuvarii made Carantania a dependency, German played an administrative role in the area. As Bavaria later became part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, the German language played an important role as a means of communication for the upper classes.

In the 19th century, the Slovene language gained prestige and the majority of Laibach's citizens acclaimed themselves as Slovene-speakers.
