History

Spongelab Interactive began as a consulting, and design & production firm for science communication and eLearning. In 2007, Spongelab introduced version one of Genomic Digital Lab which was originally known as Genomic Explorer, a museum installation. It was hosted at numerous museums in North America and introduced people to genomics, plants & plant cells, agriculture and other topics. It was co-developed by three scientists from Purdue University.[2] In version two of Genomic Digital Lab, Spongelab created a software downloadable edition that consumers could purchase. It broke the game into three interactive pieces. The third version was broken down into eight additional games and simulations. It provided built-in game-based assessment. In 2011, Spongelab redesigned their website Spongelab.com as a science eLearning platform.
