A-1 Pictures Inc. is a Japanese animation studio based in Suginami, Tokyo. The studio was founded in 2005 by Aniplex and Mikihiro Iwata, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aniplex.

Aniplex (Shanghai) Ltd. is the Chinese subsidiary of Aniplex, founded in 2019 to assist in the production of Chinese animation, as well as the sale of merchandise. The company is a joint venture between Aniplex and Sony (China) Ltd., with Aniplex holding 51% of the company, and Sony (China) owning the remaining 49%.

The company is an independently-operated joint venture between Sony Pictures and Aniplex, following the consolidation of Aniplex's former assets Madman Anime and Wakanim with Sony Pictures Television's Funimation in 2019, and was rebranded from Funimation to Crunchyroll in 2022 following the acquisition of Crunchyroll Inc. in 2021.

The company's services mainland Europe, specifically French, German, and Russian speaking territories, as well as Nordic countries and the Netherlands. Aniplex acquired a majority stake in Wakanim in 2015. In 2019, Aniplex consolidated Madman Anime and Wakanim with Sony Pictures Television's Funimation, and is now a subsidiary of the joint venture company Crunchyroll.
