Current Research

I am particularly interested in the acoustics of animal language. Specifically, how information is encoded in animal vocalizations, and the methods they use in transmitting this information across various mediums. Currently, I am working with Gunnison Prairie Dogs (Cynomys gunnisoni) and the American and Alpine Pikas (Ochotona princes and Ochotona alpine) Much of my effort has been on obtaining extremely high quality recordings and accurate acoustical analysis. At this time I am using 1 bit/5.6 MHz digital recorders with a variety of microphone arrangements including parabolic, shotgun, and wired condenser. With software for analyzing these higher quality recordings lacking, I am working on developing software specifically for this.

Interests

I am very much interested in all forms of animal communication.

I enjoy the Acoustic Guitar and all outdoor activities.
