Euphoria is an American television series created by Sam Levinson. The series is loosely based on an Israeli mini-series. The HBO series, which premiered on June 16, 2019, tells the story of a group of high school teenage students and their struggles with issues such as drug abuse, sexual/domestic violence, sexuality, and mental health. The series stars Zendaya and Maude Apatow.
Premise
The show is narrated by the protagonist of the story, Rue Bennett. She tells the story of a group of high school students and their individual lives. Rue, a bipolar, recovering drug addict, is trying to find her way in life and school. She befriends a girl named, Jules, and it changes her life forever. The characters in the show experience a society of cyber bullying. Euphoria portrays graphic moments of domestic abuse, sexual violence, drug use, and gun violence.[1]
Music
Euphoria's score was composed by London based singer-song writer-producer, Labrinth. He stated in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that the series is about high school and feels “it feels semi-magical but semi-crazy and semi-psychotic. I wanted to make sure the music felt like those things.” [2][1] The musical production of each episode plays a huge factor in this series. The way each scene is brought together through the score is what carries the show. Each episode had many Billboard Hot 100[3] songs along with the score. The song "All For Us" is hinted throughout season one, but has the large musical number acted out at the very end of the season finale. Euphoria is known for their diverse range of genres of music played through out each episode.
