Israel held Presidential elections on 14 February 2021. It was the first Israeli presidential electon to not be held 4 years after the last, and was the first to not be held on a leap year . The elections were initially going to be held on the 9 August 2020, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Second Netanyahu Government delayed elections by 6 months.
The election had the highest number of candidates in Israeli history, however the 2 candidates who went through to the second count were from Jewish Home and Servant of the People . The ruling Jewish Home alliance chose incumbent president and leader of the Fighters' List Benjamin Netanyahu their candidate. The Servant of the People party chose their leader, leader of the opposition , and former actor Amir Zelenskyy as their candidate.
