Washington Glass School & Studio
Founded in 1971 by Tim Tate and Erwin Timmers, Washington Glass School[1] is a center for glass art education in the Nation's Capitol. In 2004, Michael Janis joined the studio, and became the third director in 2005. The Washington Glass School offers a broad spectrum of classes in glass techniques for beginning, emerging and established artists working in all media. The school encourages the integration of narrative into the artwork created; encouraged one to take the work beyond technique. The Washington Glass Studio [2] creates commissioned artwork including public art sculpture.

Students work in methods of warm glass such as fusing, kiln-casting, imagery in glass, mixed-media sculpture, and sand carving. Students find additional creative resources among other students, instructors, and the surrounding artist studios that make up the Gateway Arts District. In 2009, the Washington Glass School teamed up with hot-glass studio DC GlassWorks in creating crossover classes that incorporate both fused and blown glass.
