Skullfoetusdropkick

[skuhl-fee-tus-drop-kik]

Skullfoetusdropkick is an American Death Metal band from Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2008, they have only released one album and one single at the time of writing, a self-titled album, Skullfoetusdropkick. The album is relatively rare outside of Armenia, but in December 2008, a warehouse full of copies was found in Bulgaria, but most of them were destroyed in a tragic fire(suspected arson). Less than 100 copies survived, most of which were sold to Norwegians. The band consists of two members, one guitarist/lead screaming (vocals), and one percussionist/backup screaming (vocals.) The band has most of its popularity in Southern Italy, with a small following in its hometown. The most well-known songs on Skullfoetusdropkick are Skulldrop, Foetuskick, and a self-titled song, "Skullfoetusdropkick." The band has just finished a tour which encompassed most major cities within the Antarctic circle as well as a stop in their hometown of Mercersburg, at the Mercersburg Academy. In concert, the band has been known to play unique covers of little known songs from musicals, particularly the movie "Once." Often they always begin and end their show with their first recorded song "Skull Malt," off the single "Foetus Shoppe," stating, "We view that song as a sort of 'death metal aloha.'" The band is loved among its fans for its unique elements, such as only having two members, and its unique sound, different from all other death metal bands. Skullfoetusdropkick's sound can be described as an interesting medley of pain, agony, destruction, fear, and extreme joy (symbolized in concert by large projections of romping puppies).

History

In the fall of 2008, talk began between the band's two members about starting a band. The band was called "Skulldust," and was shortly renamed "Skulldust and Fetuskick." They continued as such for a few months until it was discovered that a band called "Skulldust" already existed. The name was then undecided for several weeks, with the final two choices being "Skulldrop" and "Foetuskick" (with fetus spelled in the olde-fashioned way.) The band members could not decide between the two, so it was decided to combine them before the disagreement resulted in bloodshed.

Band Members

John "Anarchist's Atheist Graveyard" McAfee

Morgan "Death's Head Daffodil" Higby-Flowers

The legendary superhero Dr. Samson briefly toured with SFDK in early 2009, playing the flugelhorn, but did not have enough time to fight crime, so he left to defend the greater good.

Skullfoetusdropkick has had many lineup changes over its lifetime. When it first started, John "Anarchist's Atheist Graveyard" McAfee played bagpipes and heavy breathing, while Morgan "Death's Head Daffodil" Higby-Flowers played stick and pipe. Shortly after that, they realized that they weren't quite getting enough mayharnageoy (their term for the mayhem, carnage, and joy of the music) in their sound, so they switched instruments. After that, they kept switching instruments until finally they hit upon a combination that worked well enough to record an album.

Influences

The members of Skullfoetusdropkick have cited many far ranging influences, ranging from Edith Piaf to Rambo and from Daft Punk to Archie Comics. They both cite heavily the influence of the old-time country band The Hello Strangers, the rock band The Rolling Pink Zeppelins and the jazz quartet, The Blue Chair three other bands from Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.
