David Le'aupepe (born 1992[1]) is an Australian musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of indie rock band Gang of Youths.

Early life

Le'aupepe was born in 1992.[2]

Personal life

Gang of Youths' music frequently references Le'aupepe's personal life. The band's debut album, The Positions was written about his first wife's battle with cancer.[3]

Le'aupepe has struggled with depression and attempted suicide on 3 June 2014.[4] The songs "Magnolia" and "Vital Signs" both address the attempt.[5][2]

Career

2012–14: Gang of Youths formation

Le'aupepe formed the band Gang of Youths in 2012 in Sydney, Australia.[6]

2015–16: The Positions and Let Me Be Clear

2017–19: Go Farther in Lightness

On 12 July 2019, Le'aupepe featured on the track "Love and War" on Thelma Plum's debut album Better in Blak.[7]
