Definition/Intro: The Philadelphia International Music Festival is a 14-day summer music camp festival conducted on the exquisite grounds on Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Featuring members of the word-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra, the program includes students become immersed in classical music education and performance. Directed by Kimberly Fisher, Principal Second Violin of The Philadelphia Orchestra, the festival is open to musicians of all ages and skill levels. PIMF includes private lessons and master classes with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, daily orchestra and camber music rehearsals and faculty concerts featuring principal players for The Phila. Winter Festival (Miami) History: The Philadelphia International Music Festival began in 1997 as a one-week day camp with 40 local students. Originally the Strings National Music Festival, the program included three members of The Philadelphia Orchestra - including co-founder Kimberly Fisher - and the program’s two orchestras rehearsed under tents on a sprawling residential property in New Jersey. The festival soon expanded to two weeks, quickly outgrew its stately factility, and moved in 2002 to the estate-like grounds of Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia. In 2006, SIMF began an intensive winter program in Miami, Florida. In 2008, SIMF traveled overseas to begin collaborating with a music festival in Groznjan, Croatia. In 2009, the festival added a piano program directed by Hugh Sung, then-collaborative pianist with the Curtis Institute of Music. In 2010 the program changed its name to The Philadelphia International Music Festival and expanded its programming to include full orchestral repertoire. Additionaly, PIMF includes separate programming for students under 10 years of age, as well as a 17-day program for college students and young professionals that includes a chamber ensemble conducted by Philadelphia Orchestra Assistant Conductor Cristian Macelaru, solo performance studies, chamber music studies with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, orchestral auditions preparation with Kimberly Fisher, Principal Second Violin, Kimberly Fisher, competitions through which winners perform as soloists with the popular New Jersey Pops orchestra, and a teaching faculty that includes _______________________________________ Students from Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ecuador, England, France, Georgia (former Soviet Union), India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, and elsewhere have participated in the Philadelphia International Music Festival. Mission Statement: Our faculty, comprised of some of the world's finest musicians, has a passion for classical music. It is this passion, in fact, that has enabled them to develop into world-class musicians. It is our goal at the Philadelphia International Music Festival music camps to pass on to the student - through personal and group instruction - the energy, the enthusiasm, the intensity that set apart the superb player from the average, the extraordinary from the ordinary. Our Faculty Recitals, Master Classes and private lessons, presented by members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and other internationally acclaimed musicians, give musicians a taste of professional performance. Our required daily private practice hours, private practice seminar and private practice marathon help students establish greater discipline habits; and our numerous concerts and daily discussion groups help musicians of all ages to FALL IN LOVE with classical music. This saturation in classical music education and performance can make a significant impact on the lives of promising performers, and it is our hope that you will join us in Philadelphia this year to experience for yourself two dynamic weeks of music education, solo performance preparation and chamber, ensemble, or orchestra coaching. Programs: The Children’s Program: This special program is offered to children from 8 to 10 years of age only. It is designed to balance skill-appropriate music activities (such as beginner, intermediate, or advanced orchestra participation) with age-appropriate social activities. Campers in the Children's Division are placed according to skill level in one of seven festival orchestras, which rehearse daily from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. At the conclusion of each morning's orchestra rehearsal, students in this program - regardless of orchestra placement - are escorted back to the Children's Division, where they will spend the remainder of the day (and evening) with students of their own age. This exciting two-week program includes solo performance opportunities, orchestra rehearsals, choir, daily practice hours, discussion groups, master classes, optional chamber music participation, instructional music game sessions, concerts featuring members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and more! See Festival Highlights below. The Senior Program: • Orchestra Program Our Signature Program is the most popular of the four program options offered at PIMF! Open to students of all ages, the Symphony Program includes seven orchestra levels and full symphonic repertoire. Students who select this program participate in daily orchestra rehearsals from 9:30 a.m. – 12: 00 p.m. daily, attend daily afternoon music theory, music history, sight reading, or choir courses, and participate in one of four late-afternoon options: chamber music, drama, sports, or private practice. This Signature Program also includes weekly private lessons, Master Classes with principal players from The Philadelphia Orchestra, solo performance opportunities including two concerto competitions through which winners perform on-stage duo concertos with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center or Mann Music Center and as soloists with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra in New Jersey, private practice and Alexander Technique classes, optional piano lessons, a camp wide talent show and much more! *Acceptance is limited and on a first come-first served basis. Audition CD (due at later date) is required for placement purposes only. Festival Highlights: o Two private lessons with members of our world class faculty! Previous excursions have included private, after-concert meetings with Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. o Kimmel Center Competition for violin students. Winners of this competition will perform an on-stage duo concerto performance at the Kimmel Center with Kimberly Fisher, Principal Second Violinist, Philadelphia Orchestra or other member of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

• Solo Performance Preparation Program The PIMF Solo Performance Program is designed for advanced musicians, 13 to 19 years of age, preparing for upcoming solo performances or competitions. Designed for students prepared to spend 14-days in intense music training, this unique program includes three-five weekly hour-long private lessons with members of our world-class faculty, including principal players from The Philadelphia Orchestra, daily thirty-minute workouts with a faculty accompanist, four-five hours of required daily private practice, daily solo performance classes, numerous opportunities for on and off campus solo performances, two concerto competitions through which winners perform on-stage duo concertos with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center or Mann Music Center and as soloists with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra in New Jersey, an optional chamber music program, Master Classes with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and much, much more. The audition process for the PIMF Solo Performance Program- the most elite of our many programs - is highly competitive and limited to only 25 students. Early application is recommended. • College Auditions Preparation Program High School students of all ages should be preparing NOW for college auditions. Kimberly Fisher, Principal Second Violinist of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the PIMF faculty have helped countless high school students prepare successful college auditions. In this special PIMF program, students will gain powerful insights and advice on: Repertoire Selection, Establishing an Effective (and improved) Private Practice Strategy, What Teachers Look for in a College or Conservatory Audition, Utilizing Preparation Calendars, Resume Preparation, Combating Audition (and pre-audition) Nerves, How and Where to Set up Pre-Audition Performances, and more! This program, open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors of all skill levels includes: two-four weekly hour-long private lessons, three-four hours of required daily private practice, solo opportunities including two concerto competitions through which winners perform on-stage duo concertos with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center or Mann Music Center and as soloists with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra in New Jersey, an optional chamber music program, Master Classes with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and much, more. *Acceptance is limited and on a first come-first served basis.

• Piano Program with Hugh Sung (ages 13-25) The Philadelphia International Music Festival Piano Studies Program, designed for intermediate to advanced level pianists ages 13 - 25, will include three lessons weekly with Hugh Sung, collaborative pianist at The Curtis Institute of Music, Two Piano Master Classes with Hugh Sung, Daily Music Theory, Four-Hand Literature, or Sight Reading Classes, a Piano Technology Class with Hugh Sung, four hours of required daily private practice, Optional Daily Chamber Music Coaching’s, a concerto competition, solo performance option, and much more.

• Harp Program (ages 13 – 18) The harp program at The Philadelphia International Music Festival is designed for players of all skill levels from 13 - 18 years of age, will include weekly private lessons, daily harp ensemble, flute and harp choir, or orchestra rehearsals, daily chamber music rehearsals (including duets for harp and flute or harp and piano), a concerto competition, master classes, daily required private practice, a group trip to a Philadelphia Orchestra concert, a concentrated private practice seminar, and much more!

The College and Young Professionals Program: The Philadelphia International Music Festival’s Music House offers an opportunity for college students and young professionals to work for 17 days with Principal players and other members of The Philadelphia Orchestra on the magnificent grounds of Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. This tailor-made music festival experience emphasizes solo performance, practice technique, chamber music, orchestral audition preparation, concerto competitions, and technique and pedagogy. Winners of our concerto competitions perform on-stage duo concertos with Kimberly Fisher, and students accepted to the program perform in a chamber group which opens for The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Music Center or Kimmel Center in Philadelphia!
