![]() In the philosophy of mind, Putnam is known for his hypothesis of multiple realizability and for the concept of functionalism, an influential theory regarding the mind-body problem.[1][4] In the philosophy of language, he, along with Saul Kripke and others, developed the causal theory of reference and, prompted by his "Twin Earth" thought experiment, invented the notion of semantic externalism while formulating his own theory of meaning.[5] (more....)
