Personal Life

He is also know as a huge fan of Horse racing. He has been contributing an article to the Tokyo Sports Press every JRA GI race since 2014 Spring.^[2]

His most favorite food is Omurice with Demi-glace. When he plays at Rakuten Seimei Park Miyagi in the night game, he always eats his wife Satoda Mai's homemade curry rice before entering the stadium.^[3]

Meanwhile, his most least favorite food is Gazpacho.^[4]

He also does not like Tomato^[5] and fried oysters.^[6]

Tanaka is the founder of the "generation of 88." The group of people who have formed with same age professional baseball player in Japan. He has been hosting the baseball lecture for kids every year with a member of the  "generation of 88." like Kenta Maeda, Hayato Sakamoto.^[7]

Professional career

2021

On January 28, 2021, Tanaka agreed a two-year contract to return to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball. The deal appears to be worth 900 million yen ($8.6 million) a year with additional incentives, becoming the highest-paid player in NPB history.^[8] His uniform number will be 18.^[9] In addition to little interest in his asking price of $15 million, Tanaka cited Anti-Asian sentiment fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic as another reason he decided to return to Japan.^[10]

Tanaka was planning to pitch in the second opening game(27th March against Nippon Ham Fighters). However, on 25th March, Tanaka was diagnosed with injuring the right of the soleus muscle. Thus, Tanaka was waved in the second opening game.^[11]

On 17th April, Tanaka had a comeback in the NPB game (at Tokyo doom, against the Nippon Ham.) However, he got a home run by Sho Nakata in the 3rd inning and became a losing pitcher.^[12]

On 24th April, Tanaka had won for the first time after he comeback NPB (at Rakuten Seimei Park Miyagi, against the Saitama Seibu Lions.) At the same time, Tanaka had archived 139th pitcher who is 100 winning pitchers in the NPB. Tanaka was the second-fastest pitcher who got this title in the history of the NPB; Tanaka was the first player who receives this title at Tohoku Rakuten Eagles.^[13]
