Outapi is a small beautiful town located in Omusati region, northern Namibia near the border with Angola, situated 90 Kilo Meters south of Oshakati. The name "OUTAPI" came from a common traditional weapon namely "OUTA" used by the Ovawambo people, in northern Namibia. The last two letters "PI" mean that the weapon was declared as the best of all weapons used by the Ovawambo people. Some people usually call it Ombalantu as most of the people living there speak Oshimbalantu, a language under Oshiwambo tribe. Anyways, the real and formal name is Outapi. The town is known as the capital of Omusati region.

The town is physically attractive, blessed with some of the tallest trees in the country, such as Baobab, Mopane, Acasia, Palm trees and many others. There are also some interesting historical sites around the town, mainly The Ombalantu baobab tree, which has been used as a post office, a chappel and a coffee shop during the colonial time by the South African Army, and its currently being used as a craft shop. The tree has a big hole like a room inside it, in which less than 12 people can fit.

Outapi town is one of the hottest places in north of the country with an optimum temperature raging from 26 to 30 degrees celcious. The town also receive good amount of rainfall annually, suitable for plantation and other agricultural activities. The rain also cause a good growth of grasses over a wide open area around the town usually "called" Oshana by the Ovawambo people, which is good for grazing herds.

The town has also some beautiful colourful buildings, which are used as shopping complexes and Conference halls. You can also find some of the best houses in the country in Outapi town. Within and around the town you can find some schools, for example DAPP Primary School, D.Sheehama Secondary School,Outapi special school and Canisianum Roman Catholic High School which is one of the best schools in the country ranking number five at Senior secondary certificte national level.

The town is currently under the management of Outapi Town Council which strives to provide quality and affordable services through enhenced institutional capacity towards soci-economic development growth and development.
