Sean Cane knows music, because he lives to create music. As a producer, Sean C has provided hits for artists such as Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, The Roots and Wu-Tang's Ghost- face. As a music executive, Sean has worked with legendary acts such as Mobb Deep, Big Pun and Linkin Park. With over 15 years of music and business acumen under his belt, Sean C recently branched out into marketing and branding as partner in The [r]evolve Group, a strategic marketing agency providing insight on branding to music equipment corporations such as Serato and Akai Professional Electronics.
Sean C’s music ambitions began while in Harlem, New York City, where as a found- ing member of the DJ collective, the Xecutioners, he mastered the art of DJing and evolved into production. In 1996 he landed a slot on Jay-Z's debut album, Reasonable Doubt, co-producing the hit "Can't Knock The Hustle" featuring Mary J.Blige.
Sean's passion for music lead to A&R position with Loud Records, where during his tenure at Loud he worked with the acclaimed roster that included Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang and Big Pun. His works with the late star, propelled Pun from hardcore lyricist to Grammy Nominated star after Sean's involvement with the hit, "Still Not A Player" led to Pun becom- ing raps first platinum-selling Latino soloist. Sean would later go on to produce the Latin anthem "100%" for Big Pun's follow up album, Yea Baby. As VP of A&R. Sean signed the Xecutioners and would partner them with Linkin Park for an experimental hit, "Its Going Down".
In 2002 Sean started his own production company, Grind Music with DJ/Producer, LV. The new company secured a production deal with Bad Boy records and produced hits for Diddy and the rest of the Bad Boy roster. While collaborating with music’s heavyweights on production, Sean reunited with Steve Rifkind as VP of A&R for his new label SRC records on Universal, where he oversaw the release of Fat Joe and Terror Squad’s smash, “Lean Back” which spent weeks at number one on Billboard's top 100.
Through its relationship with Diddy, Sean C and LV were tapped by Jay-Z to provide the musical backdrop for his classic concept album, “American Gangster” under the Hit Men moniker. As They would produce the bulk of the album including the hit single “Roc Boys”. The album would sell well over a million copies and garnered acclaim for rejuvena- tion Jay-Z’s grass roots street sound. Sean continues to provide music for the who’s who of music royalty, working with Nas, Fabolous and the Roots among others.
Whether by action or intuition, Sean C continues to find ways to create and evolve the music he knows best; leading to memorable results that make him a leader in his field.
