Tesa is three-piece band mostly associated with post-metal and experimental metal genre residing in Riga, Latvia. The band consists of original founding members - drummer and vocalist Janis Burmeisters, guitarist Davis Burmeisters, bassist and vocalist Karlis Tone[1].

Biography

Formed in 2005 when brothers Janis and Davis after disbandment of their previous band In.Stora invited Karlis who was currently bassist on hardcore/punk outfit Kriegopfer to join forces[2]. Since formation band has released 5 studio albums and toured most parts of Europe and Russia[3]. In 2015 Tesa was playing a live show together with Carla Bozulich as her live band in Durbe, Latvia[4]. The band was opening for Neurosis in their European tour of 2016[5]. In 2018 they performed in Uganda, Africa at Nyege Nyege festival[6]. Tesa has released their albums on smaller DIY labels in Latvia, Russia and France[7] but since 2015 is associated with independent record label My Proud Mountain which re-released their 2015 record Ghost[8].

Musical style and inluences

Tesa`s music is mostly instrumental and exploits heavily distorted riffs, elements of drone contrasting with melody and harmony and rare distorted vocals buried deep in mix[9]. Their releases demonstrate a passion for experimenting with genres and sound textures, mixing dark melodies with feathery soundscapes, ambiences, psychedelic loops, and even noise music[10]. The band mentions loudness as crucial factor of their live performances[11]. Tesa refers to broad spectrum of music as their influences mentioning bands like Neurosis, Shora, Pink Floyd, Converge, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Earth, Eagle Twin, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and many others as their inspirators[12].

Activity

All members of Tesa actively participate in relatively small independent music scene in Riga taking parts in several side projects, and occasionally putting up DIY shows at their rehearsal space in Riga or otherwise support Riga`s independent music scene[13].
