Ricky Taing is a British youth councillor serving as Secretary of the Dartford Youth Council and Youth Councillor representing Dartford Grammar School since 2015.[1]

Taing grew up in Blackheath attending John Ball Primary School. He then moved to Dartford and attended Dartford Grammar School. Receiving a scholarship, he then pursued his musical studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.[2]

Early life and education

Born on 23 February 2003 in Blackheath, London, Taing is the second child of Chhiv Taing (1967-) and Annie Taing (née Tea; 1967-).

He initially attended John Ball Primary School, a state school in Blackheath followed by Dartford Grammar School, a selective school in Kent.

When he was 14, Taing was awarded a scholarship to study at the Junior Faculty of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance as a first-study pianist studying with Peter Arnold and second-study flautist with Thea Cramp.

Awards

In 2016, he performed in the annual Dartford Young Musician of the Year final and became a runner-up.[3]

In January 2019, he was awarded the Personal Achievement in Music award at the annual Try Angle Awards from Kent County Council.[4]
