David Michael Thomas is Kristy Thomas's younger brother. His father left his family when he was just a baby. His mother later married Watson Brewer. His room on Bradford Court was not much bigger than a closet. Shannon the dog belongs to the entire family, but mostly David Michael.

He attends Stoneybrook Elementary School, even though the Brewers live in the Kelsey school district. Watson and Elizabeth briefly entertain the idea of transferring David Michael to Stoneybrook Academy with his stepsister Karen, but decide to keep him at SES because they have a theatre program.
