• May 16, 2006: BozMo added the article to the 2007 Wikipedia selection for schools, using {{WPCD}}.

This prompted a long period of article improvement.

• August 26, 2006: Walkerma nominated the article for Wikipedia Version 0.5, using {{0.5 nom}}.

• September 4, 2006: I nominated the article for FA-class on using {{fac}}. The FAC discussion resulted in immediate and focussed article improvement.

• September 6, 2006: I assessed the article as A-class using a {{soil}} tag.

• September 14, 2006: Bunchofgrapes closed the FAC discussion, posting a {{acfailed}} tag. The article failed for reasons expressed by Peta relating generally to readability, and specifically to the omission of a section on the formation of soil.

• September 15, 2006: As part of the Wikipedia Version 0.5 project, Titoxd rated this article as A-Class on September 15, 2006, qualifying that rating with a comment in the edit summary: "although comments on FAC make good ideas for improvement :))"

• September 15, 2006 through February 10, 2007: The article improved

• Nominated for GA-status

• Qualified GA status

After a subsequent GA nomination period of 12 days with no comment, the article spent February 10, 2007 through September 17, 2007 as a GA-class article.

Basar de-classed the article September 17. Basar based this action on comments that the article is not sufficiently broad in scope and that it is unnecessarily weighted to a soil science perspective. At the same time he changed the project banner ratings to B-Class, including your {{v0.5}} banner.

I was inactive when this occurred, and no one opposed, or otherwise responded constructively, to this action. I intend to respond to the concerns, and broadening the article's appeal and toning down the article's objectionable heavy emphasis on soil science. I do not want to remove any soil science oriented content that would decrease the quality of the article, but I am very willing to take that risk. Any editing help you could offer in this regard would be appreciated.
