Biography

Youth

Georgy Gusev was born on September 4, 1987 in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, in the family of a boxing coach Alexander Gusev and a cello teacher Olga Guseva (nee Golikova).

He spent his childhood in Naberezhnye Chelny with a great enthusiasm for sports, music and drawing. At the age of 13 Georgy entered the Gnessin Special Music School in Moscow, after its graduation he entered the Moscow State Conservatory, where he studied in the classes of Maria Tchaikovsky, and then in the class of Alexei Seleznev.

Attending master classes of famous cellists in Europe, Georgy decided to study with the famous Italian cellist Giovanni Sollima, and in the fourth year of his study at the Moscow Conservatory he entered the National Academy of St Cecilia in Rome (class of Giovanni Sollima).

Artistic activity

Long before his graduation Georgy Gusev started to perform in orchestras, ensembles and solo programs at major music festivals and events around the world: Kronberg Academy Festival (Kronberg, Germany), Bad Ragaz Festival (Switzerland), iPalpiti Festival (Los Angeles, USA), Narnia Festival (Narni, Italy)[1], VivaCello Festival (Moscow, Russia)[2], Big Sur Festival (Big Sur, USA), Eurasia (Yekaterinburg, Russia)[3].

He performed with other musicians, singers, dancers, and performers including Yo-Yo Ma, Natalia Gutman, Giovanni Sollima, Enrico Dindo, Rocco Filippini, Monika Leskovar, Andrey Gavrilov, Boris Andrianov, Eliso Virsaladze, Pavel Vernikov, Sonig Tchakerian, Elsa Lila, Dilnaz Akhmadieva. He also worked with several multi-Grammy Award winning composers, producers and performers such as Randy Jackson, Walter Afanasieff, Kenny G, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Mark Mancina.

Georgy has taught in Gnessin Music School of Moscow (Russia), Accademia Praeneste of Rome (Italy) and Music Accademy in Big Sur (USA).

Among his students there are prize winning young cellists such as: Grigory Filipchenko, Gianluca Montarulli, Francesca Della Vista, Antonio Aprile, Antonietta Pilloli, Niccolò Citrani, Ivana Querques, Akim Korkin, Anna Skladannaya, Tikhon Evlanov.

Giovanni Sollima

Public activity

In 2011 in Russia, Georgy founded GOSH Projects - a Creative Laboratory, committed to support new projects of young and extraordinarily talented artists in Russia. In 2013 a Branch of GOSH Projects was launched in Rome, Italy. In 2019 Georgy launched a new branch of GOSH Project in California. Today he is a CEO of GOSH Projects International. He is also a founder and Artistic Director of the International Music Festival "Masters of Music" held annually in Moscow since 2013.

Art

Composer

Georgy began his career with a series of compositions for solo cello entitled, Traveler's Diary that has been incorporated onto the music track for various shows produced by Russian television and Italian RAI as well as several films.

His first solo project as a cellist and composer is the album Cello Drive, sponsored by Thomastik-Infeld Vienna and released by the UK label North2North in July 2016.

Georgy’s Carnegie Hall debut as a cellist and composer took place on February 2, 2018 where he performed his composition "CALYPSO". Another premiere of his new cycle of songs for soprano and cello "PROTOS" took place at Carnegie Hall on May 30, 2019.
