First Impressions is a Regency era online RPG (role playing game). Players can register and then use an application format to create a character from the British Regency era. These characters can range from street people and servants to aristocrats and peerage. The role playing is done post by post, in thread form. Their tag line is "a touch of adventure, a touch of intrigue, a touch of romance. "

The Basics

Setting

First Impressions is set in the fictional town of Middleton, England, in 1817. There are also forums for characters in London and Bath. Characters may have a home in one or all of these towns, and can travel between them at any given time.

Plot

The year is 1817. Jane Austen is currently writing Northanger Abbey, and George the III is currently ruling England. Life continues as it always has, especially in the small country town of Middleton, England. Cads run amok and relatives gossip and match-make.

Rules

A PG13 rating is expected and enforced by Admins and Moderators. This means curse words are discouraged using a general description like "he cursed under his breath". Unlike many post by post RPGs, First Impressions does not have a word minimum per post. Players are encouraged to make their posts as long as they can, so that other characters in the thread have more to "play with". All posts are expected to be in what is termed "Regency Speak". Anyone who has read a Jane Austen novel, will understand. This is the English language in England, early 19th century. Resources for this language are below.

Ship Names

First Impressions uses what they refer to as "ship names" to abbreviate characters that have relationships in the game. For example; the love triangle between James, Charity and Robert is known as Jamitybert. The friendship between James, Oliver, Crispin and Robert is called Jamolipinert.
