Mountain Wrestling Association (MWA) is an American independent professional wrestling promotion based in Winchester, Kentucky. It has existed since the early 1970s, being the oldest running wrestling promotion in the state of Kentucky. The MWA is owned and ran by Mr. Chris Hayes.[1]

History and Overview

The company that would eventually become the MWA originally began in southern Kentucky when Dale "TNT" Mann formed Mountain Wrestling. The company ran events in many southern Kentucky towns, such Somerset and Monticello, throughout most of the mid and late 1970s. In 1978, Mann brought the company to the central Kentucky area, running weekly events in Georgetown, Kentucky. During the first few years in Georgetown the company changed names many times, being known as Mountain Wrestling, Kentucky Championship Wrestling, and Mid-Continental Championship Wrestling. By the beginning of 1980, the company settled on Mid-Continental Championship Wrestling as its main stay name and kept that name for some time. It was during this era the company received its first television deal, being broadcast on channel 34 out of Cambellsville, Kentucky, showcasing such stars as "Fabulous" Danny Fargo, "Dr. Mac Attack" Ron Star, and "Lean Mean" Donnie Green.

In the mid 1990s Danny Fargo bought the company from Dale Mann and continued running weekly events every Sunday in Georgetown, Kentucky at the Georgetown Convention Center. During this era, the company entered a "Golden Age" where it reaped huge benefits and played to packed houses every Sunday in Georgetown, KY as well as hosting huge events in Nicholasville, KY and all across northern Kentucky. Throughout the years following, the company rose in popularity and became a mainstay for the region. It was during this time Danny Fargo settled on naming the company the Mountain Wrestling Association.

It was in 1998 that Fargo decided to sell the company to long time MWA wrestler, "Dirty" Chris Hayes. Under Mr. Hayes ownership the company went through further changes, while still running shows out of Georgetown, KY, the MWA branched out to Mt. Sterling, KY. In 2003 to 2007, the company changed its Head Quarters to Mt. Sterling, KY while branching out to run events all over the Kentucky, including Rupp Arena in Lexington, The Blue Grass State Fair, Richmond, Owenton, and many more areas. In 2007, the company moved to Winchester, KY for its new head quarters, and resides there today.[2]
