Basic information

My name is Michal Novotny and my nickname preference is Mig, as based on Spanish domestic version of my first name. I was born on October 9th, 1984 in city of Policka, Czech Republic, and currently I am both living and working in Brno, Czech Republic. I am having a website at www.migsoft.net Migova stranka.

Background

I am a computer programmer working in various languages and projects since beginning of year 2000 when I was a 15 years old student of secondary school in Svitavy, Czech Republic. There were many languages I went through, I started programming in Basic (interpreted in QBasic language which was part of MS-DOS operating system that time), then I moved to Pascal programming language after a year or so using Borland and Turbo Pascal IDEs for programming. I did learn a lot in Pascal language and did some utilities for personal use only but I never wanted to create a game, graphical application using EGAVGA.BGI driver and similar stuff. After some time, I started programming in Borland Delphi which was very similar to Borland Pascal since Delphi is using Pascal constructions and functions, just with some modifications. Since Borland Delphi was a new thing for me mainly because of RAD IDE (Rapid Application Development IDE) I liked it that time creating some utilities for computer management and I did some system programming under Windows environments since Windows 95 which required me to learn something about the basics about inwards of the operating system but I never did device driver programming, unfortunately. As time went by my graduation from secondary school in Svitavy, Czech Republic was closing in and there were seminars from IVT (in Czech, ICT in English as for Information and Computing Technology) for those who wanted to graduate from computers and apply to some technically based universities like Masaryk University in Brno or VUT (in Czech, BUT - Brno University of Technology - in English). I started doing our secondary school's webmaster and also I was doing some expert works in the IT field when I was on secondary school - they were created in Borland Delphi and also one project in PHP scripting with MySQL database. First was a selection of few my Delphi programs for system administration and system tools. Second was a project I called ISPack which stands for Internet Services Pack and like the name suggests it was a pack of about 5 networking services at one, incl. HTTP server, FTP server, SMTP and POP3 servers and also TFTP server. Administration was able using /sysadmin alias on the HTTP server when enabled. Third, and the last expect work, was project for e-commerce, one e-shop done mainly for secondary school's website but turned into a project to be presented after my headmasters (in that time) recommendation. I was also attending the seminars to get knowledge in the are and to apply for a Masaryk University after my graduation exam. That time, at the seminars, I saw another operating system than Windows for the first time, it was Red Hat Linux 7.2, codename Enigma. Since we did programming in C language in the seminars and we were using Red Hat Linux for this kind of programming, using standalone GNU C Compiler, or gcc, available in the installation I found it really fascinating. I learned a lot about socket programming that time by creating a network connectivity enabled small database server (nothing like MySQL or something similar, just a simple system without any encryption or database definition capabilities, just some proprietary commands to insert/update/delete and show/select capabilities for just a one table, table of contacts with their cell phone numbers) as a project for my graduation. In 2004 I started attending the Masaryk University but not for so long because the University was very theoretical for me so I started working. About that time, I started working in Linux.

Interests

I like hanging out with friends, watch science fiction movies and read documents about theories. I like to study new things concerning computer technologies, physics and biology and also writing theories about using some things. Also, I like making new computers systems, mainly for security or general use, e.g. utilities etc.
