The Bugis dynasty ruled the Sultanate of Aceh from 1727 to 1903, it was the final and the longest reigning dynasty of Aceh, ruling Aceh for a total of 176 years. Founded by Alauddin Ahmad Syah, a Bugis merchant and bureaucrat who rose to power in the times of turmoil and crisis during the late period of Syarif dynasty, he was proclaimed as sultan and inaugurated the Bugis dynasty. Despite having to face challenges like civil war and crisis, the Bugis dynasty was able to survive and keep on power in Aceh for over a century until its eventual fall following their defeat by the Dutch East Indies in the Aceh War, when sultan Alauddin Muhammad Da'ud Syah II surrendered and gave up his throne on 10 January 1903.
