Academy Awards

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States for achievements in filmmaking. Prince has been nominated for one Academy Award and won the Oscar for that nomination.

Year Nominated work Award category Result
1984 Purple Rain Best Original Song Score Won

Prince is the last person to win the award for Best Original Song Score, a category now known as Best Original Musical. The award is still in the Academy rulebook, but has not been given under either name since Purple Rain due to an insufficient number or quality of original musicals being made in any year to justify re-activating the category.

Grammy Awards

Earning 33 nominations, Prince has won seven Grammys. He also has had two albums − 1999 and Purple Rain − awarded the Grammy Hall of Fame Award.
