IBM® SmartCloud™ Virtual Storage Center(VSC) provides virtualization and management of heterogeneous storage systems. It helps users migrate existing storage to an agile, cloud-based, software-defined environment without replacing them. VSC uses analytics driven automated tiered storage optimization to migrate large data volumes across brands of storage systems and between storage tiers.

EMA research ^[1] states that reducing the traditional waste resulting from storage over-provisioning, intelligent storage tiering and the elimination of often painful interactions between storage and server teams during the provisioning process, are the main advantages of adopting VSC.
