We are a pair of undergraduate students at the University of California Berkeley residing in Berkeley, California USA. We are currently undertaking a Reading and Composition English course specializing in Caribbean literature that examines the Caribbean literary scene from the earliest instance of European presence during the fifteenth century up until its political and cultural resurgence in the last century. We are newly registered users and have become progressively more involved in the realm of Wikipedia, as we are in the midst of a collaborative effort to draft our own online entries on influential Caribbean writers.

In our first hands-on experience contributing to Wikipedia, we found ourselves quickly immersed in the online encyclopedia phenomenon. Firstly, we are of the school of thought that it is imperative to not simply contribute information on a topic that one is familiar with, but rather, to have concrete documentation that is included in an appropriate manner to substantiate our articles. It may even be the case that it is better to write on topics that one has not studied in depth before; hence, there would be less inclination to inadvertently include information or biased perspectives that are inconsistent with the project’s guidelines.

To date, we continue to work as active peer-reviewers in our spare time, including but not limited to literature and history articles pertaining to our specific areas of concentration. We also peer review other online entries of Caribbean literature in order to ensure their accessibility to the general public.
