Sureshchandra Shantilal Lalan (born 1968) is a diamantaire and businessman from Surat, India. He is recipient of National Award for Best self-employed person with disabilities category given by Government of India in 2018.[1]

Life Sketch

He was born in 1968 in Bharadva, a village of Banaskantha district of Gujarat. Infected with polio in both legs in childhood, he currently lives with 80% loco-motor disability.[2]

He arrived in Surat in 1990 and starting from a scratch, did various jobs in diamond factories. In 2011 he left the job of production head, where he managed 600 plus workers and started his own diamond manufacturing cum export unit.[2] He soon established himself as a successful diamond manufacturer and his firm was given One Star Export House status in 2018.[2] The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment of Government of India took a note of his achievement and he was awarded in 2018 National Award by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment of Government of India for Best self employed person with Disabilities category, considering the fact that he employs more than 150 persons are employed in his factory.[1][2]
