Becky Kelley(born on December 2, 1962) is a teacher at Jefferson Community and Technical College. She began her teaching career in 2005 after receiving her bachelors degree in English and Psychology. during this time she began volunteering at a local girls group home, where she learned many skills that would help in her teaching career.

Becky is also a published writer, she has been featured in publications such as:Home & Away Louisville, The Courier-Journal, Reader's Digest and many more. she is also currently in the process of writing a novel titled Swiming in Ice

Becky decided to become a teacher after she had won a writing competition. At that time she was working on her doctorate in Psychology. After winning the writing competition, she began to wonder if she could make a living writing. After much soul searching, she quit psychology as a major and decided to pursue a Master’s of English. Teaching English and Psychology just went along with this plan.

She became a teacher to help others become better writers which gives her a sense of making a difference in the world. One of the things she loves about teaching is the camaraderie between the instructors. She also enjoys getting to know new students and letting them know she cares about them. Watching students go from writing a paper full of grammatical errors and misplaced meanings to one that is logical and filled with sources to back up their ideas is gratifying.

One thing that she dislikes about teaching is when students fail the class and try to blame her for their failure. She hates to fail students, but they need to understand that it is necessary for them to take responsibility for themselves in order to become successful. While she loves to read students’ papers sometimes she has to force herself to sit down and read them, especially if it is nice outside and she could be outside planting something.

Becky does not have a favorite subject to teach; she loves teaching them all. After three semesters of teaching psychology she finally feels comfortable, but she still rereads the chapter before class to be sure she is confident about what she is going to cover in class.

Becky plans on teaching as long as an institution will let her teach and would eventually like to spend part of the year teaching in Gulf Shores, Alabama. When asked about teaching Becky says, “I couldn’t imagine how much I would love it”.

One of Becky Kelley's dreams has always been to be a writer and in recent years her dreams have come true. Over the past few years she has been published in several magazines as well as a book and short story. When asked how she felt about finally becoming a published writer her response was simple and elegant. “I live a happy life… It took a long time to get there”

Becky Kelley is a newly published American writer. Of her book new book, Swimming in Ice, which will be published late this year. Of her many books, what you will find of her writing is in the HCI book series of 2009, ; Whimsical Press, A Tail of Christmas 2004 ; Monster’s Dreams which has yet has not been published, and her recently published story, The Ultimate Teacher .

Not only does Becky Kelley have time for writing books and returning in essay contests, she seems to have time to publish articles in local newspapers and in state and out of state magazines. The only newspaper she has written an article for was the Courier – Journal based out of Louisville, Kentucky in 2006. There have been numerous of articles that she has written for magazines all over. For her local area magazines that her articles have been published in; Home & Away, Louisville, Kentucky; Kentuckiana Family, Louisville, Kentucky; and out of side magazine she wrote an article for the Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, New York.

With such a gifted skill, Kelley has entered in many writing essay contest. All the contest she has entered are as followed and the award she was given: 24 Hour Short Story Contest 2008, Honorable Mention. Townsend Press Developmental Teachers Writing Competition 2006, 5th Place; WLOU Writing Contest 2006, 1st Place; Bullitt County Library Writing Competition 2005, 3rd Place; Snitch First Annual Essay Writing Contest 2003, 1st Place; and lastly Metroversity Expository Writing Competition 2001, Creative Category 2nd Place.
