Base22 is a digital consulting firm that specializes custom-made enterprise solutions[1]. It is headquartered in Richardson, Texas, and has service delivery offices in Columbus, Ohio[2], and Monterrey, Mexico. The firm employs over 100+ professional staff members across North America [5][3].

Their expertise spans technology, design and strategy for digital transformation projects with government, NGOs and private companies. The firm has earned several accolades for their work with recognitions such as HBR McKinsey Awards [6][7] and MarCom Awards[8]. As part of their methodology, the firm has designed a unique set of accelerators, patterns and components for digital platforms and products, such as those of Liferay and IBM (now HCL), called "Catalyst Framework"[9], formerly "Blueprint"[10].

History

In 2007, Burleson Technology Group, LLC was founded. As the company grew, new partners and team members joined the firm and in 2009 the company was renamed Base2, LLC[1]. In that year, their first Delivery Center opened in Monterrey, Mexico[1].

Through the end of 2016, Base22 designed and delivered world class web solutions that transformed work for employees, dealers, distributors and customers, including global projects for Cemex[6], UPS[11] and KFC[12]. The firm released on 2016 their flagship product Carbon LDP[13], a Linked Data Platform based on specifications endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)[14]. In 2017, they partnered with Dell Boomi[15] to provide more sophisticated integration services, as well with Liferay[16] to offer consulting services on their digital experience products.

Together with HCL, Base22 has been involved in the digital transformation of the State of Ohio[4][17], supported by the opening of a second delivery center in Columbus, Ohio in early 2019[2]. Recently the firm collaborated in the ONTO2050 plan's website of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning[18].

Recently the company was featured in HR Outlook Magazine regarding their Catalyst Framework for digital workplaces[9].

Carbon LDP

Launched in 2016, Carbon LDP is a Linked Data Platform[13][22] for building web apps that manage and link data within an enterprise and across the web[13]. It allows web developers to build secure, data-centric web apps using client-side code like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS[13]. Though not open-source, the software's license grants perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, and royalty-free use. Carbon LDP is one of the first commercial implementations of the Linked Data Platform specification[14], endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and has ranked in the Top 10 low code solution by CIO Applications Magazine[23].

Carbon LDP is a project comprised of several components: the platform itself, a JavaScript/TypeScript SDK, Carbon Workbench (GUI), and boilerplates and libraries devised to help jump start-developers[13].

Carbon's latest version is 5.1.0, released in early 2019[21].

Platform

Carbon LDP is an enterprise-class Linked Data Platform that allows to create and extend web applications with the benefits of Linked Data and the RDF data model[13]. Similar to other NoSQL document-oriented databases that have gained popularity in recent years, Carbon LDP allows developers to work with data as documents, reading and writing them like web pages using RESTful HTTP requests, through a simple JSON/REST API[24]. Carbon LDP is nearly fully compliant with the LDP 1.0 specification. Among other features, it provides security authentication and authorization, SPARQL support, LDAP integration[22], and implements Linked Data Notifications (LDN) protocol[25].

Carbon LDP runs of Docker containers and can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud[22].

Carbon JavaScript/TypeScript SDK

Software Development Kit, developed to simplify Carbon LDP usage, by building and abstracting upon the REST API to create objects and functions that make it easier a more convenient to interact with platform features. There are online free boilerplates to start up development with Carbon and Angular[22].

Carbon Workbench

The Carbon Workbench provides a graphical user interface for interacting with the platform and with application data. The Workbench allows users to visualize and manage data outside of code[22].

Carbon Workbench runs on Docker containers[13].
