History

After Canal Nou was closed on July 14, 2016, the Corts Valencianes (Valencian Parliament) approved the law proposal for the opening of the Valencian Media Corporation with 64 votes for —by PSPV-PSOE, Coalició Compromís, Podemos and Ciudadanos— and 26 abstentions —by PPCV—. The law establishes that this entity must have three channels, although it does not specify neither the names nor the date of the beginning of the broadcast.[5]

For its part, the tender for the election of the brand and the corporative image opened on January 31, 2017, awarding the winner with an amount of €50 000.[6]

Later, on March 8, 2017, the Valencian Media Corporation made the name of their first television channel public. The name, thought up by the Aftershare agency —of which the publicist Risto Mejide is a member— was selected among 82 proposals.[7] According to the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), which the entity of the Corporation depends on, the name "À Punt" was chosen for three reasons: in the first place, the letter "A" appears in the names of the three provinces of the Communitat Valenciana (Valencian Community): Castelló, Alacant and València; in the second place, the letter "A" is the first one of the alphabet, "it is the beginning, a start from scratch, the opening of something new", and given that "the approach of numbers has been used up, the first letter has been chosen". Finally, the acute accent was added: the tonic à, very typical of the Catalan language.[8]

After that choice, Jorge Bellver, the PPCV's deputy, asked to reconsider the name because "A punt" had been the slogan of the demonstration for the Catalan independence movement during the National Day of Catalonia in 2016, even though every member of the Governing Council, the ones from this party included, had unanimously voted for said name.[9] Other 9 deputies reminded him that the Valencian Media Corporation has functional independence, despite being part of the Generalitat, and that the name had been used before by both Valencia’s Council and the Valencian Mobility Agency, when the PP was in charge of both institutions.[10][11][12]

On July 26, the Charter of Values to Children and Youth Content (Carta de valores a los contenidos infantiles y juveniles, in Spanish) was approved.[13]

On August 30, 2017, viewers could watch, for the first time, the test card that presented the name of the new autonomous Valencian channel. On a blue background and with all the text written in Valencian, it announced "Som À Punt Media" ("We are À Punt media") on a yellow rectangle and black letters.[14] Up to that day, on the test card, it only appeared the logo of the extinct RTVV.

On April 25, 2018, the testing phase for the broadcasting of Valencian Media Corporation‘s first channel started, with contents both from Radiotelevisió Valenciana archive (documentary films, valencian pilota matches and music bands competitions) and from the website (children's programming). All of this occured between 08:00 and 22:30.[15]

However, it was not until June 10 when regular broadcasting started with the definitive 24 hours programming.

Four years, six months and twelve days after the blackout of Canal Nou, decreed by the government of Alberto Fabra (PP),[16] regular broadcasting with the final schedule for 24 hours started on June 10 at 14:30.[17]

Adelaida Ferre and Vanessa Gregori, from the news (set 3) would be responsible for welcoming viewers, ensuring that they intended to turn the channel into a "referral point in our territory and report in a rigorous, transparent and plural way".

It should be noted that reciprocity in the broadcasting of Valencian Media Corporation radio and television channels is expected with the public channels of Catalonia (Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals), Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB) and Aragon (CARTV). Thus, these channels would be aired in the Valencian Community as long as the Corporation's channels are aired in these territories.[18]

TV Broadcast

Valencian television is supposed to have three free-to-air channels available on DTTV, on the same TV frequencies in which Canal Nou and Canal Nou Dos aired formerly, as well as on the Internet.[19] The former channel offered general content, while the second had a thematic and informative character. A third one would be targeted at a children's audience and would be exclusively aired on the Internet.[20]

Probably, as it was suggested on the framework mandate of PSPV-PSOE and of Coalició Compromís, an international channel will also be initiated so as to promote Valencian culture and audiovisual industry abroad.[21]

Regarding the changes produced before the first channel broadcast, on April 12, 2018, À Punt proceeded to change the DTTV broadcasting header from the Production Programmes Centre of Burjassot (València) with the objective of improving high-definition broadcasts, with regard to the beginning of the broadcasting testing phase in April 25. Moreover, Radiotelevisió Valenciana (RTVV) also released that same day a new test card, in which the radio was playing at the end of the broadcasts. Since then until June 10, 2018, the starting date of regular broadcasts,[22] the corporate image was designed and the content to air was evaluated.[23] The broadcast started at 02:30 with the news presented by Adelaida Ferre and Vanessa Gregori.[24]

À Punt's director, Empar Marco, did not trust the audience measurement systems of Kantar Ibope Media (previously known as the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics) and, therefore, looked for an alternative to them. Valencian Media Corporation invested €55 055 in surveys to measure the channel audience from autumn of 2018, thanks to the GfK SE.[25] Finally, the steering committee reached an agreement with Kantar Media corporation in order to measure the audience rate from September 2018.[26]

After Canal Nou was closed on July 14, 2016, the Corts Valencianes (Valencian Parliament) approved with 64 votes for -PSPV-PSOE, Coalició Compromís, Podemos and Ciudadanos- and 26 abstentions -PPCV- the law proposal for the opening of the Valencian Media Corporation. For its part, the tender for the election of the brand and the corporative image opened on January 31, 2017, providing the winner of the chosen proposal with an amount of €50 000.[6]

Later, on Mars 8, 2017, the Valencian Media Corporation made the name of their first television channel public. Said name, thought up by the Aftershare agency -of which the publicist Risto Mejide is a member- was selected among 82 proposals.[7] According to the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), of which the entity of the Corporation depends on, the name "À Punt" was chosen for three reasons: in the first place, the letter "A" appears in the names of the three provinces of the Communitat Valenciana (Valencian Community): Castelló, Alacant and València; in the second place, the letter "A" is the first one of the alphabet, "it is the beginning, a start from scratch, the opening of something new", and given that "the approach of the numbers has been used up, the first letter has been chosen"; and finally, the acute accent is added, the tonic à in Catalan, a very typical sign of the Catalan language.[8]

After that choice, Jorge Bellver, the PPCV's deputy, asked to reconsider the name because "A punt" had been the slogan of the demonstration for the Catalan independence movement during the National Day of Catalonia in 2016, even though every member of the Governing Council, the ones from this party included, had unanimously voted for said name.[9] Other 9 deputies reminded him that the Valencian Media Corporation has functional independence, despite of being part of the Generalitat, and that the name had been used before by both Valencia’s Council and the Valencian Mobility Agency, while the PP was in charge of both institutions.[10][11][12]

On July 26, the «Carta de valores a los contenidos infantiles y juveniles» (the charter of values to children and youth content) was approved.[13]

On August 30, 2017, viewers can watch, for the first time, the test card that presents the name of the new autonomous Valencian channel. On a blue background and with all the text written in Valencian, it announces "Som À Punt Media" (we are À Punt media) on a yellow rectangle and black letters.[14] Until that day, on the test card, it only appeared the logo of the extinct RTVV.

On April 25, 2018, the testing phase for the broadcasting of Valencian Media Corporation‘s first channel started, with contents both from Radiotelevisió Valenciana archive (documentary films, valencian pilota matches and music bands competitions) and from the website (children's programming), all of this occured between 08:00 and 22:30.[15]

However, it was not until June 10 when regular broadcasting started with the final programming during 24 hours.

Four years, six months and twelve days after the blackout of Canal Nou, decreed by the government of Alberto Fabra (PP),[16] on June 10 at 14:30 regular broadcasting with the final schedule for 24 hours started.[17]

Adelaida Ferre and Vanessa Gregori, from set 3 of news would be responsible of welcoming viewers, ensuring that they intended to turn the channel into a "reference in our territory and report in a rigorous, transparent and plural way".

It should be noted that reciprocity is expected in the broadcasting of Valencian Media Corporation radio and television channels with the public channels of Catalonia (Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals), Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB) and Aragon (CARTV). Thus, these channels would be watched in the Valencian Community as long as the Corporation's channels are watched in these territories.[18]

TV Broadcast

Valencian television is supposed to have three channels available to air on free by DTTV, through the same TV frequencies in which Canal Nou and Canal Nou Dos aired formerly, as well as through the Internet.[19] The former channel offered general content, while the second had a thematic and informative character. A third one would be focused on child audiences and would be exclusively aired through the Internet.[20]

Probably, as it was suggested on the framework mandate of PSPV-PSOE and of Coalició Compromís, an international channel wil also be initiated so as to promote Valencian culture and audiovisual industry abroad.[21]

Regarding the changes produced before the first channel broadcast, on April 12, 2018, À Punt proceeds to change the DTTV broadcasting header from the Production Programmes Centre of Burjassot (València) with the objective to improve high-definition broadcasts, with regard to the beginning of the broadcasting testing phase in April 25. Moreover, Radiotelevisió Valenciana (RTVV) also released that same day a new testcard, in which radio is played at the end of the broadcasts. Since then until June 10, 2018, the starting date of regular broadcasts,[22] the corporate image is dessigned and the content to air is evaluated.[23] The broadcast is initiated at 02:30 with the news presented by Adelaida Ferre and Vanessa Gregori.[24]

À Punt's director, Empar Marco, didn't trust the audience measurement systems of Kantar Ibope Media (previously known as the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics) and, therefore, looked for an alternative to them. Valencian Media Corporation invests €55 055 in surveys to measure the channel audience from autumn of 2018, thanks to the GfK SE.[25] Finally, the steering committee reached an agreement with Kantar Media corporation in order to measure the audience rate from September 2018.[26]
