ENGR IYIOLA OLAYINKA OGUNJOBI (AKA: OB LINE IS OB ) was born into a family of sportsmen. He was the Railways FC shot-stopper, his younger brother ( LATE MAJOR TAIWO OGUNJOB) was a long distance runner for the Nigeria Army, other younger sibling was the Shooting stars FC skipper ( Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi ) with his twin a table tennis sensation ( Kehinde Ogunjobi). We all love sports
SPORTS HISTORY
Started as a footballer(striker )at Critale Hope FC till I was successfully courted by Railway FC secretary to the corporation ( Barrister Ogunlesi) after all means by Leventis UTD( Iddo warriors) to woo me failed. I later was converted to a goalkeeper to take over from our then number one ( Lati Gomez ) and my reserve was Eyo Essien ( former Nigeria Number 1). This was during the era of JOE ERICO of PWD, PAUL HAMILTON OF ECN AND OLAYUMBO Brothers of old reliables(Railway Fc). After a head injury, I pulled out for football and started athletics, where I excelled in 400m beating the famous ABIODUN Lajide at the Liberty Stadium during the All Line Games. I dominated for some years until I left sports to further my Engineering profession in t the UK. I returned back to Nigeria and then decided to go into table tennis and lawn tennis as my leisure sport till in 2004 I got introduced to golf - my life changed.
His Story
Athletic Lineage:
Engr. Iyiola Olayinka Ogunjobi (aka Baba Amofin of IGC) hails from a family steeped in sporting tradition. His late brother, Major Taiwo Ogunjobi, was a distinguished long-distance runner for the Nigerian Army. Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, another brother, captained the esteemed Shooting Stars FC, while his twin, Kehinde Ogunjobi, excelled in table tennis. This rich athletic heritage undoubtedly fostered a love for sports in Engr. Ogunjobi.
Footballing Career:
Engr. Ogunjobi’s athletic journey began on the football pitch as a striker for Critale Hope FC. His talent caught the eye of Barrister Ogunlesi, secretary to the Railway FC corporation, who successfully recruited him despite attempts from Leventis United (Iddo Warriors).
A pivotal moment saw Engr. Ogunjobi transition from striker to goalkeeper, taking over from the established Lati Gomez. His understudy was Eyo Essien, a former Nigerian national goalkeeper. This period coincided with the eras of legendary figures like Joe Erico (PWD), Paul Hamilton (ECN), and the Olayumbo Brothers of Railway FC.
Athletic Diversification:
Following a head injury, Engr. Ogunjobi shifted his focus to athletics, excelling in the 400 meters. Notably, he achieved a memorable victory over the renowned Abiodun Lajide at the Liberty Stadium during the All Line Games. His dominance continued for several years before prioritizing his Engineering career in the UK.
Return to Sports and Beyond:
Upon his return to Nigeria, Engr. Ogunjobi embraced table tennis and lawn tennis as recreational pursuits. Finally, in 2004, he discovered a new passion – golf. This introduction marked a significant turning point in his life
