Faa der, an acronym for Federal Aviation Administration Delegated Engineering Representative. These designees are appointed by a geographic ACO [aircraft certification office] branch of the FAA. This appointment is issued under 14 CFR Part 183, and further defined under FAA Order 8110.37 [DER Handbook]. They are authorized by issuing a FAA Form 8110.25 letter of appoinment which defines what areas the FAA has authorized them to act on the ACO's behalf. For this service they may charge a fee!
